Episode 1.16 The First Cut is the Deepest

Overview:

Nathan must decide which parent to live with after the divorce, but Dan decides to force his hand by threatening to reveal Deb’s darkest secrets in court unless Nathan chooses him. Meanwhile, Lucas meets a beautiful stranger who starts his head spinning. Grammy Award-winner Sheryl Crow appears as herself and performs the song “The First Cut Is The Deepest” in Karen’s Cafe.

Recap:

Brooke’s furious phase named “Peyton is the worst skinny blond b!tch in the whole world” can commence. Peyton tries to patch up their differences but her efforts are kind of vain. Someone else is having a tough time. Lucas is definitely depressed because he lost both Brooke and Peyton. He’s also annoyed because rehab isn’t that fast. He enters a bar, and he ends up hooking up with a mysterious girl named Nikki. Karen is worried, so she asks Peyton and Brooke to go looking for him. The bartender informs them “You just missed him. But he wasn’t a loner when he left, if you know what I mean.” Later, when Lucas shows up at home, Karen isn’t exactly thrilled. Lucas has always been such a wise and good kid and this ‘bad-ass’ phase must end. Lucas promises he wants to do better in the future.

While Dan tries to bribe Nathan by offering a very expensive car, Deb opens up: she admits to Nathan that she had an affair some years before. Nathan doesn’t seem to consider the fact she did come back, he’s too hurt. In the meantime, Dan wants to buy Keith’s shop and he ends up accepting. Unfortunately, it turns out that Dan plans to turn Keith’s shop into something a bit different.

Fresh news: Nathan is petitioning for emancipation from Deb and Dan. Jake asks Peyton to take care of Jenny and she does a very good job. When Jake comes back home, they spend a nice evening together.
Sheryl Crow shows up at Karen’s and Haley barters: “One song per cup of coffee.” And Sheryl starts singing, while some scenes are in the background. Lucas, Brooke, and Peyton are alone in their room, looking kind of sad. A very upset Deb tells Dan that Nathan wants to leave them. At Jack’s house, someone is knocking on the door. It’s Nikki, Jenny’s mother. Yep, she is back in town, and she is definitely eager to have news about her daughter.
