Episode 1.20 What Is And What Should Never Be
Overview:
Nathan looks for an after-school job to pay his rent and looks forward to the party that night that Haley is throwing for him. However, Haley panics when things get out of control. Brooke realizes that she isn’t considered a “close friend” so she goes to a bar and meets the infamous Nikki whom she chooses to crash the party with. The news Nikki is the random girl Lucas made out with, leaves Peyton shocked and disappointed in Lucas.
Recap:
Since Tim seems to enjoy partying all the way at Nathan’s apartment, Haley comes up with an idea: a party for Nathan. Meanwhile, Brooke is always more furious at Peyton, but this time it turns out Miss Sawyer is fed up with the whole situation. Peyton is done trying to apologize. She informs Lucas they don’t have to avoid each other anymore. They agree to go to Nathan and Haley’s party… together.
Nathan needs money for the apartment, so he sells his car. Of course, Dan wants the money back since the car was a present of his. Nathan has to find a job. He starts working for a food stand at the mall. Unfortunately, he and his boss don’t exactly hit it off, since the guy is a highschool major dork Nathan had always made fun of.
Karen tells Lucas about the whole rejected proposal (plus leaving) thing and he immediately heads for Keith’s house. Lucas tells his uncle that he will be sorely missed, if he decides to leave.
When Brooke learns she wasn’t invited to the party, she heads to a bar, drinking all the way. Nikki shows up, asking what brings Brooke out into the big, bad, real world. Brooke’s answer is simple: “Anger, alcohol, and a fake ID”.
The party is turning into a rager, since always more unknown people come by. In the end, even Brooke and Nikki come over: it’s time to crash the party. Meanwhile, at the Scott’s, after the umpteenth argument, Dan and Deb end up spending the night together.
Back at the party, ‘fight club’ can get started: Peyton and Nikki start fighting but Lucas manages to divide the two of them. Everyone in the apartment wants Nikki to leave but she has something to say before walking away. It turns out she’s the mysterious girl Lucas met in the bar. While Peyton is clearly upset, a drunk Brooke can’t help but point out to Lucas, “And you called me easy?”
Finally Nathan – who was stuck at the mall – shows up, just in time to greet the police, who have just now arrived. “Underage drinking. Disturbing the peace.” Nathan ends up in jail, and Dan bails him out. He want Nathan to come back home, but Nathan stands up to him, thanks to Lucas’ help.
Peyton and Brooke are in Peyton’s bedroom and they seem to be on the path to mending their torn friendship. Well, at least they’re not insulting each other, and that’s definitely a start. Keith stops by Karen’s Cafè with some news. He got a job and will be leaving soon. Meanwhile, Dan informs Deb she can have the divorce.
It’s a new morning in Tree Hill and Lucas is waiting for Peyton outside school. She is clearly disappointed in him. “You know, when you and I first met, I was with Nathan. And he was a pretty bad guy, if you remember. Who knew that you two would switch places?” After that, Peyton walks away, leaving Lucas standing all alone.
