Episode 2.02 The Truth Doesn’t Make A Noise
Overview:
With the assistance of Peyton and Brooke, Lucas throws Nathan and Haley a wedding reception. Although Haley’s parents support the marriage, Deb has a difficult time accepting it. Meanwhile, Dan’s recent heart attack causes him to try and mend his relationships with Deb and Lucas.
Recap:
Dan did wake up but something is definitely going on: he turned into SD – Saint Dan. Amazingly, he apologizes to Deb, Keith, Nathan and he even claims he wants to talk to Lucas. The doctor is clear, though. “The Phoenix Effect isn’t uncommon in cardiac patients. They grow… remorseful, introspective, sometimes even joyous. But it doesn’t always last.”
Brooke’s mission: find “the perfect man for Peyton” has officially begun. It turns out that Brooke added her to “Lust Factor dot com”. Peyton isn’t that thrilled, but Brooke doesn’t give it up and starts taking pictures of Peyton all the way.
Lucas wants to throw a party for Nathan and Haley, so he asks Peyton and Brooke to help him out. It’s clear he’s kind of hoping the three of them can mend their friendship. Brooke and Peyton accept. “Any excuse for a party.” Brooke’s comment, of course. Once home, Brooke can’t help but tell Peyton that maybe it would have been better if they had read Lucas’ letter. Peyton bottles it up. Shocker, uh?
Keith tells Dan he’ll run the dealership while he is recovering, and Saint Dan says he’s okay with that. In the meantime, Karen doesn’t know whether or not she wants to start taking some university courses.
Thanks to Peyton and Brooke’s ideas, the party is great. Lucas catches up with Brooke and Peyton; it seems they might start forgetting the past mistakes.
Meanwhile, Haley’s parents let her know they’re going to buy a RV and hit the road. Haley is stunned, but her mother assures her: “Oh baby. The beauty of a motor home is that we can launch a sneak attack anytime and anywhere.”
Bad times are not done yet. Deb comes over and she can’t help but freak out. Quickly, Haley makes it clear that Deb cannot do anything to stop this marriage, so Deb walks away.
It’s toast time and Lucas makes some wonderful comments about his brother and his “little sis-in-law”.
“Everybody’s changing” by Keane is playing in the background, and Deb is sitting alone in the living room, holding an old picture of Nathan as a child; Brooke is looking at a picture with herself, Peyton and Lucas. After a moment, she sticks it on the mirror. Peyton is in her bedroom and she’s deleting her Lust Factor profile. At Karen’s, Miss Roe’s highlighter is marking courses that she is interested in. At the Scott dealership, a very-smart-looking Keith begins his first day on the new job.
In the last scene, Lucas shows up in Dan’s hospital bedroom and hears the words he had been longing for his entire life: “I’m glad you came son.”
