Peyton returns to her house soaking wet and sees Ellie crying. Ellie comes out and tells Peyton she has to leave now that the album is done. Peyton is upset.
Mouth comes over to Rachel’s bedroom to watch a movie. He tries to take a picture of them without Rachel knowing but she sees the camera. They take a picture together.
Karen and Keith are in the cafe puting buckets everywhere because the roof is leaking. She tells Keith she told to Lucas he might have to spend the night with Brooke. Keith says she’s every boy’s dream mom. Karen says it’s not like that but Keith starts to talk about Brooke and Lucas and him and Karen at the same time.
Haley goes to Nathan’s house and tells him that she will go to Duke. He tells her she can’t go to Duke and he doesn’t want her to. She gets angry and starts to leave. Nathan just smiles at her until she asks her why he is grinning. Nathan says that she can’t go to Duke because he is going to Stanford, her dream school. Suddenly the lights go out.
We’re back at Rachel’s house where they are sitting on her bed and Mouth tries to kiss her. She asks if he tried to kiss her and he says yeah, but she was the one who turned out the lights. She says it’s a blackout and Mouth is beyond embarrassed.
Brooke is looking for a flashlight and Lucas tells her they should call Peyton because he is worried about her. Brooke finds the flashlight and hits Lucas with it. She says she did it because he is an a$$ and stomps off.
Ellie and Peyton are lighting candles. Ellie asks Peyton if she is prepared for a blackout. Peyton brings out a huge flashlight and tries to turn it on. Ellie asks her when she last changed the batteries and Peyton says when she was 13. Ellie decides to stay one last night.
Haley and Nathan are in the kitchen talking and Nathan says maybe the blackout is a sign that they should work things out. Haley asks if they have to and Nathan says "no, but until then it’s you me and the darkness."
Dan breaks into Keith’s apartment and says he’s got to find his decorator. He finds a picture of him and Keith when they were younger. We go to a flashback when Dan was scared of the dark and lightening and Keith came in to comfort him. He gave him the same picture so that he’ll always remember him. Dan takes the picture out and keeps it.
Mouth apologizes to Rachel for trying to kiss her and she tells him to stop apologizing. She tells him being mean makes girls like guys more. He tries but fails and tells her that being mean is stupid. She says if he is calling her stupid, he is getting sexier by the minute.
Lucas asks Brooke why she hit him with the flashlight. She doesn’t answer so he say he’ll start a fire as soon as he can find something to burn. She hands him his letter to burn. He asks why and she says because of the last line which says "you’re mine forever." It turns out it was in a letter Lucas wrote to Peyton. She runs out upset. Lucas tells her that it was a mistake and that he knows that she fells vulnerable but she doesn’t listen. He calls her phycotic and runs after her.
Ellie and Peyton are talking about albums. Peyton says her saddest song was Celebration because it was playing when her mom died and her happiest song is Happy Birthday. Ellie says her happiest song was Here Comes a Regular because it was played by Paul Westberg in The Meadow and that was the moment she felt most alive.
Nathan and Haley are eating and he notices she is wearing her hair the same way she was the first time he tutored him. She asks him what else he remembers and he cannot help but bring up the poncho. Then he gets serious and says she wore the jeans when they fell asleep in the park together and her shoes when they got stuck at the dmv for five hours waiting for her new licence with Nathan’s last name and her shirt when she woke up and played a Black Bird by the Beatles on her guitar. He says he remember more that she thinks.
Karen shows Keith the framed first dollar she earned. She says that he gave it to her. She said everyone thought she was crazy and said she’ll never forget what he told her. He says that he said "anyone who thinks this is more than you can handle is less than the kinda person you need in your life." She smiles and kisses him.
Lucas and Brooke are still outside and Brooke asks him why he used the same words. He can’t answer that so she asks why did he chose her instead of Peyton. He says that he cares about Peyton but he loves her. Brooke needs to know why and Lucas says "Because you kink your eyebrow when you’re trying to be cute; because you quote Keimoo, even though I’ve never actually seen you read. And because… you miss your parents but you’ll never ever admit that. And because… I’ve given exactly two of these embarrassing speeches in my entire life and they’ve both been with you. And because we’re both… gonna get pneumonia but if you need to hear why I love you, I can go on all night." She forgives him and kisses him.
Mouth tells Rachel that he knows that she’s using him to make Brooke jelous. She tells him that she doesn’t need him. She can make girls like him though by being mean. Mouth says that one day he’ll meet a girl who he thinks is beautiful and he won’t have to be mean to her and he’ll spend the rest of his life with her.
Peyton finally asks Ellie about her cancer. Ellie says it’s okay but Peyton says it’s not. Ellie takes her out and tells her she’s going into life.
Haley and Nathan are lying in from of the fire. Haley says she feels like they’re cheating because they haven’t talked about all the big issues. Nathan says maybe a night together is what they need to work things out but Haley has so many questions. She asks him why he called Chris. Nathan says because music is a big part of who he is. He told her that going to high flyers showed him how wrong he was to make her choose between him and tour. Haley says that she wasn’t proud of the tour because she knows that he wasn’t proud of her. Nathan is shocked by this and runs to the car to show her something. Haley runs after him and sees papers blow away. She picks them up and sees that they are articles from the tour. He tells her that he was hurt but still proud of her everyday. Nathan tries to pick up the articles getting ruined but Haley says that he doesn’t need those stuff anymore. He has her. They start to kiss and Nathan puts her on the hood of the car

Rachel sits down next to Mouth on the bed. She says that they are stuck with each other until the lights come back on and that they could kiss to pass the time. Mouth says they could but he’s not going to because if he kisses her he’s going to wake up wanting to do it again but she won’t, but on the day that changes he’ll kiss her. The lights come on and he leaves.
Ellie and Peyton are drying off. Peyton tells Ellie that she was in love with a guy but she let her go and it is too late. Ellie says it’s never too late.
Nathan and Haley are in bed. Haley is awake and looks worried. Nathan tells her to stop worrying. She asks him how he know that she is worried, since he hasn’t even opened his eyes. He says he doesn’t need to see her to know what’s going on with her. Haley says she’s wondering if she should leave because she doesn’t want to wake up and not see Nathan. Nathan says he’ll be there.
