4.06 Where Did You Sleep Last Night?

Overview:

Nathan struggles with money problems and reluctantly asks Dan for help; Brooke learns the new man in her life is also her new English teacher; Peyton gets help from an unexpected source; and Lucas returns to the Ravens just in time to help the team advance in the playoffs for the state championship.

Recap:

As soon as the episode started, Brooke and Rachel walked into class talking and there seems to be a new teacher. Right after the girls walk in, the teacher introduces himself as Mr.Chavez, their new English teacher. As soon as Brooke sees him she says "Nick?!", who was the guy she went out with while pretending to be a 23 year old fashion designer. Rachel says to Brooke: "Just remember… if he’s really mad, start crying… works every time." After class, Brooke goes back into the room and deals with everything. Nick says they shouldn’t be doing this but then he kisses Brooke. They decide to just keep their relationship private.
Lucas goes to see how Peyton is doing and she has to drop keys down from her window to let him in and then once he gets upstairs to her room she has to unlock of bunch of chains and locks just to let him in her room. It seems Peyton is still freaked out about Psycho Derek. She decided to paint her room white because she can’t sleep; just the thought of being in her same, old, dark, room again scares her. She also tried to call her new brother, the real Derek, but he never called her back. Since Peyton is still extremely freaked out, Lucas goes to Derek for help. He says he barely knows Peyton and he doesn’t really want to help her. But later on, Derek comes to find Lucas so he can help Peyton. As he knocks on Lucas’ door and walks in, Peyton walks in the room and Derek asks her to go with him. Derek takes her to the military base, to a boxing ring. He tells her to punch him and she refuses, so he starts pushing her gently and making comments about her, trying to get her mad and it works. As Peyton starts punching Derek and letting out her fears and anger, she has flash backs of all the bad and sad times she has gone through recently. Some were of the Derek attacking her, one of Ellie lying there dead, and some of her just being mad and fearful. Doing this helps Peyton.
Nathan and Haley are having money problems. Haley is concerned and she doesn’t know what to do, so Nathan asks Dan for help. Unfortunately asking Dan was a waste of time since he won’t help them; he tells Nathan that he is married and also emancipated so he is on his own. Meanwhile, an old acquaintance of Dan’s, Daunte, comes to town willing to know why Nathan isn’t taking the scholarship to Duke.
Brooke sneaks out during the middle of the night to go be with Nick, but little does she know, Rachel knows what she is doing. Then, Haley tells Brooke that she was accepted to some kind of designer’s competition called T.A.R.T. and Brooke wants to get ready for it. Meanwhile Lucas tells Skills he is back on the team: Whitey has decided to take him back.
Haley goes to Karen for help and advice. Karen tells Haley everything will be fine because she has friends and a great husband to support her. Later when Haley is home in bed, the power, which was previously shut off, turns back on and Haley thanks Nathan for asking Dan for help. She doesn’t not know that actually Nathan got the money from Daunte. Also, Daunte traded Nathans motorcycle back for his old car.
Derek drops Peyton off at her house and leaves her alone, but really, he is sitting outside to watch over her to make sure nothing happens to her, and he waits for her to build the confidence to turn off her light … and after a few minutes she does just that.
Nick tells Brooke that after three months she will be out of school and their relationship doesn’t have to be kept a secret anymore.
