Season 5 Episode 4 It’s Alright Ma (I’m Only Bleeding) Recap

Once again we open with Lucas catching us all up on everyone.
Brooke and Peyton are at their house. Peyton says it’s her first day in the studio. Peyton tells Brooke she’s doing great.
Lucas has a voiceover about parents. They show him checking mail and finding a postcard from his mom. Then Peyton is setting flowers down at her mom’s grave.
Back at NHJ’s house eating breakfast. Jamie wants to play but Haley is leaving. Carrie takes Jamie out. Nathan and Haley talk. She asks how he’s doing and he says there’s good days and bad days. Haley begins telling Nathan about Quentin and how she couldn’t get far with him. She suggests Nathan talking to him. He says he’s in no place to give advice. She talks him into it. She leaves saying “Are you bringing back the mullet or what.”
Mouse is in bed and Alice comes and kisses him bye and tells him she’ll she him at work. He throws the covers over his head. Skillz walks in and asks what’s going on. He figures out it’s Alice. Mouth denies. Skillz says he needs to ask for a raise.
Back to the store. Brooke is complaining about things not moving. Victoria walks in and says this is why she left. Victoria insists she leaves. Brooke asks for her to listen. She says for the last few years, she’s completely done what Victoria wanted but she knows she can do this and wants a chance. Victoria says “Alright”. Victoria says she should commend her for taking care of all that stuff. Brooke realizes she is way behind and gets on the cell phone as soon as Victoria leaves to get help.
Quentin and Nathan are at the river court. Quentin acknowledges how big he was and the mistakes also. Nathan tries to probe him why he quit. Quentin just makes smart remarks.
Cut to Lindsey and Lucas hugging and kissing again. He says why do you have to look extra sexy when you’re about to leave. She says she’ll be back from New York soon and to try to stay out of trouble. He says what could happen? Peyton knocks at the door. Lindsey closes the door and says “change of plans”.

Lindsey says that was a joke when she reopens the door. Peyton apologizes for the other day and then invites her to Brooke’s store opening. She suggests going to a book thing with Lucas since she’s going to New York. Peyton says that would be weird. She says no, you’d have to be pretty awful to do that while I’m out of town.
Cut to Skillz and Nathan at basketball practice. Lucas comes in and talks to Nathan. Nathan says Quentin should be on the team. Lucas says he doesn’t have time to deal with his crap. Nathan offers to come and help. Lucas seems doubtful but agrees.
Cut to Peyton in the studio with Jason and the band. She stops them and says to go slower. He agrees but then gets the band to play the exact same thing. Peyton seems confused and stops them again. Jason argues. He says they’re his songs and they’ll play them his way.
Haley walks into the house. She says she needs to do some things. Carrie actually saw the to-do list and did everything for Haley.
Brooke is at the store and Victoria is there. Brooke is surprised. Victoria offers help. She asks who one of the girls is. It’s Millicent and Victoria is shocked at Millicent and her clothes. Brooke says Victoria can do inventory with Millicent and then walks away. Victoria asks Millicent to bring in couture clothes.
Peyton and Haley are at a pool. Peyton is complaining about the band. Peyton wants to borrow Haley for two hours. Nathan is in the pool and suggests she should do it. Haley agrees.
Quentin walks into Lucas’s office. Lucas asks him to close the door. QUentin puts his feet on the desk and says you want me back right? He ignores Lucas’s request to put his feet down. Lucas gives him a speech about him being the coach and Quentin playing as part of a team. Quentin insists everyone knows he’s the best and he doesn’t want to play defense. They he says I might even let you take the credit.

Haley and Peyton listen to the band. Haley says they definitely have potential. Haley goes in the studio and gives advice and Jason fights back. Jason isn’t having it and takes a smoke break.
Mouth is in the sound bay and a guy that works there and they talk about Alice. He says he wishes someone would stand up to her one day.
Haley and Peyton are at the piano in the studio. Haley offers to produce the record. she says Carrie has taken over a lot and feels like she’s just starting her life even though she had Jamie so young.
Brooke is at the store with Millicent, Mouth, Peyton and Lucas. She says don’t get food on the clothes. Lucas asks Peyton about the band. She complains about Jason. Lucas says you’ve always been capable of more than you give yourself credit for. Brooke and Victoria talk. Victoria says she should be proud. Brooke says she’s glad she’s here. Peyton goes up to Victoria and says it’s great you’re here and supporting her. Victoria says “Let’s be clear. The only reason she returned to this backwoods town is because her loser friend couldn’t cut it in Los Angeles. That’s why I’m here. To make sure my daughter is completely exploited by her parasitic so-called friends. So get your little act together before you ruin her life too.” Woah.

Mia is singing and playing in the studio. Haley walks in and listens for a few seconds. Haley says it sounds good. Mia tries to shrug it off and says Jason writes all their stuff.
Skillz, Nathan and Lucas are at practice. Quentin is smarting off to players. Lucas says to Nathan, “He’s all yours.”
Brooke and Millicent are at the shop. Brooke notices the higher end stuff and Millicent begins to explain. Victoria interrupts and Millicent walks off.
Back Mouths’ work where Alice is yelling at them. Mouth stands up to her and says it’s not their fault. Alice says don’t talk back to me but that was kind of hot. They kiss.
Nathan and Quentin are the river court and Nathan says he should listen to the coaches. Quentin says he doesn’t need people. Quentin says he used to respect him because he had game but now he is a gimpy has-been. He goes and slams the ball and walks off.
Haley complains to Jason for being late to studio time. Jason shrugs it off. Haley says he’s dismissed. He walks out.
Peyton says to Haley “You can’t kick him out!” Haley tells Peyton Mia is the magic, not Jason. Jason is yelling in the studio. Haley convinces Peyton she’s not wrong. Peyton tells Jason he’s fired. Jason gathers his stuff and walks off. Two of the band members leave but Mia stays even though she looks unsure. Haley promises Mia they’ll do great.

Lucas and Peyton are dressed up. Lucas says she looks nice. Peyton says it feels weird. Lucas says we had a relationship but we were close friends before and there’s no reason we can’t have the again. Peyton agrees. Lucas and Peyton go up to Brooke at the store opening. She wonders where Lindsey is and Lucas says New York. Haley is looking at a dress. Brooke says she can have the dress. Victoria complains to Millicent. Mouth walks up and says he has an awful boss too. Lucas walks past Victoria and she says you are one of her ill-chosen love interest. Lucas says she must be proud of Brooke. Lucas tells Peyton he thought Brooke was exaggerating about her mom. Brooke takes Peyton and gives her a dress. Brooke says to be honest why Peyton is there. Peyton insists it’s not Lucas. Brooke points out the bartender checking out Peyton. Skillz walks up to Mouth sitting on a couch. Mouth is complaining with Alice because he doesn’t want to be a meaningless plaything. Lucas walks up to Peyton and asks if she’s ready to go. Peyton says she’s going to stay. Lucas whispers to her he’s not good enough for you. Peyton goes outside and says It’s not fair to me or Lindsey for you to say things like that.

Brooke is looking at her empty store. Victoria brings up a drink to Brooke. She says the night was amazing. Victoria says Here’s to a job well done. She wonders how the store did. Brooke checks the numbers and they realize they didn’t sell anything but a few scarves and purses. Victoria provokes her and says it was the biggest deficit. She tells Millicent to pack up the stuff and send it to Houston. She says if she sold one dress, she’d consider letting herkeep the store. Millicent offers to buy a dress. She says she’s not just buying a dress. Victoria says it changes nothing.
Mia is singing and playing the piano. Haley is listening at the door. Mia says she feels like she’s going to throw up. Haley says to believe in herself. She says not to worry, they’ll face it tomorrow. She asks about the song. She gives her some advice. Haley is playing and then she’s at home. Nathan says he wants to see the dress on her. Jamie walks in and tells Haley goodnight. Carrie walks in and asks if everything is ok. Haley says everything is great. She thanks her again for all the help.
Back to Mia playing the piano and singing in the studio.
Alice is at the office. Mouth says he saw her at the opening with another guy. Alice asks if he’s jealous and says her private life is her own business and he was completely boring. Mouth asks what she’s working on. She says she has some openings and you see Mouth’s CD. Alice says You’re place or mine?
Peyton walks in to Brooke crying over ice cream. She says the store is a failure. She says she didn’t sell anything. Victoria saw it all coming and she can’t be left to do it alone. Peyton says she’s no failure..she won three cheerleading competitions, pageants and student body president. Victoria was never there for any of that. If Brooke is a failure, then what does that make her? Brooke shrugs her shoulder.
Lucas is laying down and calls Lindsey and says, Lindsey, I miss you.
Jamie is in bed and Haley goes to check on him. She says a picture he made and it’s of him and Nanny Carrie. Haley is upset.
Mia finishes playing and it ends.
