Few people have had a life like “One Tree Hill” character Nathan Scott’s. He was raised by an overbearing murderer and a prescription pill-popper, has had two near-death experiences, had his NBA dreams crushed in a bar fight, and is facing the pressures of being a husband and dad at just 22. And yet, James Lafferty, who plays Nate, says he’s more like Nate than any other character on the show.
“I don’t identify completely with any of the characters,” James, 22, tells SOAPnet.com. “I share Nathan’s competitive nature — obviously, I don’t have the same problems at home — but I identify with a lot of his traits.” .
Speaking of those problems at home, James says he thinks they’re portrayed accurately. Responding to SOAPnet.com reader concerns that Nathan’s mom, Deb, is getting an unfair pass over dad Dan, he explains, “Dan has to deal with the consequences of his actions. Yes, Deb tried to kill Dan, but she had her reasons. Obviously, no one should kill anyone, but she was driven to it much more than Dan was driven to kill his brother, Keith. And Keith was such a beloved character.”.
Plus, Nathan and Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) need Deb’s help! The show’s young married couple have a 5-year-old, not to mention promising careers in music and basketball to pursue. James says he enjoys taking on the role of a young father and husband: “It’s challenging, but it’s good. I actually am the age of the character I’m playing, and it’s pretty interesting putting myself into those shoes. Obviously, a younger father is going to make a few mistakes here and there.” .
Dealing with the Drama
It helps that James works well with costar Jackson Brundage, who plays the kid in question. “He’s pretty much a genius,” James says. “He’s a great energy on set.” And, he explains, that’s needed when the actors get drawn into the show’s often difficult dramas. “Each character has to go to a dark place to come back out of it,” which means everyone pitches in to “lighten it up a bit” when the cameras aren’t rolling..Still, James doesn’t think Nathan’s had it that bad, when you put it in perspective. “I think one season Peyton [Hilarie Burton] cried for 13 episodes,” he jokes.
As for the final episodes of the season, the actor tells us, “There’s a lot more story to be told with Nathan and Dan — Dan drops a bomb on everyone. And what’s going on with Lucas’s [Chad Michael Murray] storyline — I almost guarantee that no one’s going to see that coming.” .
We can’t wait!.

wow….. thats crazy?! What Dan Bomb? the heart condition? & Lucas’ storyline…. I think its going to have to do with Brucas!!!!!! Who knows… I think imma sit my lil bottom down & wait & see

OMG!!! I can’t wait! I think Lucas’ storyline will be along the lines of Luke and Brooke hook-up in the season finale. Like he’s comforting her because of the baby one thing leads to another and in walks Peyton and the credits roll. And of course just to add to the drama Lucas will realize that he still loves Peyton right before she walks in on him and Brooke.

I think that James is just taking about the IHY for the rest of the world that is not nearly as spoiler obsessed as we all. I do wonder what Dan has up his sleeve. Maybe another illegitimate kid? Hey here’s a stretch, what if Dan turned out to be Peyton Biodad too. Like he hooked up with Ellie somewhere bwt Karen and Deb. Then poor Peyton got to deal with Lucas and Nathan being her haft brothers. Oh that is so wrong… Well at least it would bring some hope to all you brucas fans.

I hope that’s not the case. That would be terrible for Peyton to deal with. Maybe Dan is trying to get Nathan to talk to him by using Lucas as a decoy. Maybe Dan is not his real dad? Hmmmm.

I think that its the Lucas story line is going to invole Peyton and the IHY (maybe an apologie) or maybe even something with the drawing and his feelings about it.

yeah, my mom is now wanting to go with us and make it a family event. this time we’ll be more prepared!!!!!!! (hopefully)it sounds dumb now, but we were really excited to stand and watch all the interaction with the crew and the anticipation of whether another actor would show up. i need to talk to amy about it but i think you can call and set up to be an extra….if so we need to do that asap before filming is over.

Well, I do have to say FF usually has all this info available but sometimes it’s hard to sift through it all.
And Heather and I were JUST talking on the phone and reading the comments coming through about going to see the filming maybe next month and wondering what we could and couldn’t tell when we got back. I was like, I can’t keep all that from them!! What if I saw some really juicy scene. Like what if I was at the Lucas and Peyton wedding or something. OMG! There’s no way I could keep that a secret!

So, I’ve never commented here before, but I have a major guess concerning Lucas and I want to see if any one else gets the same feeling after seeing all these spoilers recently. Anyways, I think that the “you’re not gonna see this comin’” is … maybe that Lucas is the driver of the car that hits Dan. Now this is completely a guess and someone else might have a reason why this is wrong but I just have that feeling for some weird reason. Please tell me what you think.

Heather you have succeeded it making this place unique.
I have been part of some boards over the years and the bashing and disrespect is so unneccessary.
We all love the show and can agree to disagree on certain apsects of it, but everyone’s opinion is equally important.

happy ending in s4?i wouldnt say that.thats were all the problems started.peyton supposed to be gone just for the summer and all of a sudden she took a job to la.yes it wasnt tragic as the previous ones but it wasnt happy either.all i know is that more drama is coming up unless s6 is the end of oth(which sucks).we desperately need some flashbacks to see what happened in these 4 years.not just with leyton.damn it was good when i didnt know the show and i saw all the episodes in notime.this waiting is killing me.

i meant the finale itself not within the missing 4 years…Dan turned himself in, Karen saw Keith and went back to Lily…Luke encouraged peyton to take the internship, and he got a coaching job with whitey and nathan was able to play college ball! Naley had jamie… Leyton were completely in love so were Brase and Skevin and Naley… and mouth, rachel (she got to graduate) junk and fergie were all happy to… the basketball game at the very end it was sweet… rather then fake prenancies and leaving tree hill and heart attacks and fires and car crashes etc. at that time it was happy but in the next four years is where things went wrong. thats what i meant

its true, season 4 finale was a happy one, no cliffhangers. it was amazing, especially how it finished with everyone in the rivercourt.i loved it! that would have been good for a series finale!
