Voegele talks One Tree Hill, meeting Myspace Tom
Ohio native Kate Voegele will perform a free concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in Baker Center Theater. Voegele, most known for her role on the fifth season of One Tree Hill, is a songwriter and guitarist who signed with MySpace Records and won a New York City Songwriters Circle Award in 2006 for her hit single “Only Fooling Myself.” The Post’s Star Watson talked with Voegele about traveling, her role on One Tree Hill and future career plans.
The Post: You’ve been on a lot of tours lately and are currently touring with Natasha Bedingfield; how do you prepare?
Kate Voegele: It’s pretty crazy, it’s pretty nonstop — so I’ve been in the mode for the last six months, so before a tour you got to gear up to be busy 24/7…But it’s really in getting yourself pumped up with the band and the show to make sure everything is where it needs to be. I think it’s going into it with a great perspective and remembering why you do it…when you remember how much you love what you are doing and why you are doing it, it makes it so much easier.
Post: What do you look forward to the most when you go on tour?
Voegele: I think one of the things is the travel. I just love spending time in all of the different cities…It’s like being on vacation all the time — you get to travel, and I love exploring the different cities where I’m at, like finding cool shops and restaurants and other things. I like to pick up something, even if it’s something little…That’s probably the thing I look forward to the most.
Post: What is your most memorable moment on tour?
Voegele: It’s hard to say because every night there is always something really, really amazing going on. There are always people who approach you after the show and tell you how much you really affected them, and that is always really cool for me. After the show, people are so adamant to meet and talk to me about how a song really affected them in a profound way, and that’s so cool for me.
Post: What was it like being on One Tree Hill?
Voegele: It was awesome…I never knew what to expect, I never really done any official acting. Everyone was so welcoming and down to earth… I’m just the new kid who was there for seven episodes, but they were so nice and I made so many new friends. It was definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had in my career.
Post: Who haven’t you worked with yet and who would you like to work with in the future?
Voegele: I don’t know there are lots of people I would love to work with: Patty Griffin, Ryan Adams and all country type of artists.
Post: How did you hook up with Tom and the gang up at MySpace to be on their record label?
Voegele: Tom sent me a message personally on MySpace and asked me to come showcase for him. That was pretty crazy because I didn’t think it was real. …Tom is a great guy and he got a great, creative vision for his label, and I think it’s awesome that he’s so innovative with everything he’s doing. It’s been an awesome partnership, I just love working with those guys.\

I got to meet Kate in Asheville when she performed at The Orange Peel. She was AWESOME live and so nice when I met her. I got her autograph and my pic taken with her.

i loved Mia in the libray episode and when they left the libray how she was singing the My name is peyton song.. I LOVED THAT whole thing……and I love love love her version of Hallejuah (spelling?? sorry)

that is true my friends and I were out for dinner last night and she isnt big here in canada but she was playing in the restaurant and it made me smile cause she is adorable and funny and im not a fan of Marks when he adds new ppl to my show but I liked Mia/Kate

I couldnt stand felix lol and that was from the start and Chris Keller drove me mental with his thrid person talk… but I guess this season has been pretty good with the newbies

lol Im gonna be pissed if owen comes back and dates Brooke… espcially after the whole being MIA with the baby thing (I know he was really fiming a movie but in the world of OTH Storyline he was an ass) and I dont want Brooke with him though I think him and Rachael can date case apparently she is comming back as well…

but I did enjoy her and her talent is amazing the end scene she did in the finale when she called lucause still breaks my heart thinking about the whole thing I mean you could feel through the tv the emotion that went into that and they way she was looking at the camera and the tears AMAZING……

i know i know i watched that show too when it was on but i have to watch oth or i go nuts. i want it to go to season 7 though. i am over weight and my husband told be that if i loose the weight i can go to nc to try and be an extra.

I cant even tell you how often i hear Kate Voegele on the radio nowadays, or see her on TV. Its amazing, I really love her music!!
