Season 6 Episode 6 Choosin’ My Own Way of Life Review

Posted by Amy with 140 Comments

OK, here’s my rundown!

  • SO glad that Carrie is GONE.  It was like normal had returned to Tree Hill.  OMG.
  • I have to say I wish Nathan would cut Dan some slack.  Yes, he killed your father, but he saved your WIFE and SON.  And he truly seems remorseful and just wants that relationship back.  And really Dan bent over backwards for Nathan and his basketball. I know sometimes it was too much but it would be so great for Dan to share in this time with Nathan getting back into ball.
  • And speaking of…so great to see  Nathan excited about ball.  Of course loved the little bit of Naley we got at the end.
  • Owen’s back!  Yippee!  Jamie and him were so cute together.  I love how Owen said he screwed it up.  At least a hint that they are going to deal with that.
  • I felt SO, SO, SO bad for Lucas and his book signing.  Wow. I was not expecting that.  Poor guy.  I understand the concept of family being more important and I love how he said Peyton was so important to him but wow.  I was embarrassed for him.
  • I think Mick and Peyton were good tonight.  I think Mick finally showed that he and Ellie made the right choice. I think Peyton saw that and got some closure.  I liked how he brought in Ellie and said how she never got over it.  I liked that it was HER coin that he had, showing that he wasn’t ever really sober (I did get that right, right?).  I liked how they pulled in her People Always Leave picture.  I like how Peyton called Larry at the end.
  • I think this Sam and Brooke thing is going to be good.  It was nice to see how they tied in Peyton’s adoption and Brooke’s line with Sam.  For some reason, I’m much better dealing with this foster parent idea rather than Angie.
  • I’m so glad Brooke finally told Peyton the truth.  I’m glad Peyton made it clear how upset she was that Brooke didn’t say anything.  And I’M REALLY glad Peyton is the one that saw the mirror and finally was like, ok, what’s up?  Good to see them close again.
  • Not sure how I feel about Mouth coming back.  I’m a fan of Mouth’s and I don’t know, we spent all of Season 5 trying to get him to the point he is and then he’s going to pull a Brooke and Peyton and head home.  I just wish we could know that he’s being successful for a little while longer.

I think that got it all.  There were no major highs and no major lows.  It was a good episode about everyone deciding their future.  Nathan chooses slamball, Brooke faces her past and moves forward with Sam and her “bucket list”, Peyton moves past her dad, Mouth chooses Tree Hill, Lucas (forcefully) leaves his book tour.   A lot of decisions were made tonight so I think it will be interesting to see what happens as we move forward and they all have to deal with them.

Posted by Amy with 38 Comments

We are continuing to keep the chat room open at http://www.meebo.com/room/othblog for discussion and in case the site goes down.

Lucas puts his book in his bag. Peyton wakes up and teases him about packing his bag last minute. Lucas says he’s going to his first signing in Omaha and will see Mouth. Lucas says they are going to Omaha first to generate buzz before they get to the big markets. Peyton says she’s jealous of Lindsey who gets him for a week. He asks about Mick and wonders why he won’t admit he’s her father. Lucas says he’ll call when he’ll land. They say ILY’s and kiss. She says don’t forget me when you’re a big star.
Nathan and Haley walk through the courtyard. Nathan says they’ll cut through shop. Nathan tells Haley she was a nerd. Haley spots Sam sleeping in a car in shop. Haley and Sam chat in her class. Sam says she’s in a foster home. Haley wants to talk to her parents. Sam says no. Same asks her not to screw it up. Haley tries to convince her but Sam says she’s not her girl.
Brooke walks in COB and Millicent is there. Millie says they have a lot to do. She unveils a list of ideas. It’s a “bucket list”. She says she needs to heal or soul first. Ride a motorcycle, watch James Bonds’ movies, get drunk at Oktoberfest, etc. It’s all Brooke’s ideas that Victoria told her was stupid. Millie says “Welcome to someday, Brooke Davis.” Brooke starts to cry and hugs her.
Nathan and Skills are at the RC. Skills gives him a hard time about playing. He tells him to get physical. Nathan dunks on him. Deb says you’re doing great, honey. They both say thanks. Nathan says just check the ball!
Peyton walks in the studio and finds Mick passed out on the pool table. She sees his one-year sober coin.

Peyton continues to eye the coin as Mick wakes up. Peyton asks if he was ever sober for a year and he says what part of rock guitars do you not get? They argue. Peyton says she wishes he hadn’t come. He says I would have sucked at being your father. That’s why Ellie and I gave you up. Are you happy now? Peyton says is that this best you can give me? Mick says that’s all I got. Peyton is shocked and throws his coin back and says thanks, Dad, you can go now.
Dan pick Jamie up from school. Dan asks what him and Deb usually do. Jamie says she makes him eat veggies to make him grow strong. Dan takes him to get ice cream on the riverwalk. Dan spies Deb and Skills kissing. Jamie says they kiss A LOT. They go talk to them. Deb says ice cream after school? Dan says they ran out of x-ray vision carrots. Dan wants to talk to Deb. He says is Skills out of high school yet? Deb says if you came to criticize me…Dan says I don’t. I want to say thanks for telling the parole board the truth about Carrie. Deb says have a nice life. Dan says what’s left of it. Skills and Deb walk away.
Brooke and Millie eat on the floor in COB. Brooke asks about Mouth. She says she wishes he would come home.
Lucas walks out of the airport in Omaha. A driver from the publisher picks him up. He says Lindsey will be in New York and is taking her place on the tour.
Dan walks in the hallway and has a flashback of Keith. Nathan walks up. Dan says he was dropping off Jamie. Dan says he’s sorry about Quentin. Nathan says he was shot. It was a tragedy. Makes you wonder how someone could do that. Nathan says you saved my wife and son but you killed my uncle right here. I don’t know where that leaves us. At least my son loves you. Dan says my son hates me. Nathan says both of them.

Mick is playing guitar in the studio and Peyton walks back in. She thought he was gone. Mick says we should talk. Peyton says all this because you have missed my whole life and you don’t seem to care. Mick says maybe it’s time for me to move on. Peyton goes into her office.
Lucas has no one at his signing. The guy thought it was a science fiction book. Luke says it’s a metaphor and it’s a love story. A little girls comes up and wants an autograph for a Gossip Girl book. She says it’s her favorite. Luke smiles and signs. Mouth comes up and gives him a hug. Luke says he’s the first one there.
Haley goes to see Brooke at COB. Brooke says he’s going to take skydiving lessons. Haley declines an invite. Brooke says would you be interested in fostering a child? Haley says Sam needs a foster home. Brooke says maybe they can foster her in jail. Brooke declines. Haley says she just wonders who is protecting Sam like she protects Jamie.
Lucas is alone at the signing still. He said it’s embarrassing. He says his book sold well in Omaha. He says it’s not good. Someone comes up and wants a picture with Mouth and makes Luke take it.
Nathan walks into their living room and asks how it went with Brooke. Nathan offers to keep Sam but Haley says it’s too much for Jamie. Nathan gets a call on his cell. Mike Wilson calls and says he has an opp to play ball. They show slamball. Nathan and Jamie are in the stands watching with Skills. Jamie loves it and wants Nathan to do it. Nathan is worried about his back.
Brooke is back in her room with the writing on her mirror. Peyton walks in and sees it. Brooke says she has to tell her something. Brooke says she lied. She says she was attacked.

Nathan and Skills walk the court after the game. They argue about Skills and Deb. Jamie is playing on the trampolines. Skills is amazed how strong he is. Skills says he gets it from both of them. Owen walks up and says I guess they let anyone in.
Peyton says she wished she would have said something. Brooke says I didn’t know how. She was really embarrassed. And she didn’t want to ruin her and Luke. Peyton says I never want you to think you can’t come to me. Brooke apologizes. She says she’s trying to get back. Peyton says she’s not going anywhere. Ever.
The guy says the book tour is canceled. He wants to talk to Lindsey. He says Lindsey didn’t agree. Luke says that’s why he sent him…to give him the bad news.
Brooke and Peyton are baking cookies and talk about Brooke’s plan to do it for a living. Peyton says she has a secret of her own..she met her birth dad. Brooke asks about him. Peyton says he’s a mess. He’s not what she expected. Brooke says it’d be nice to pick your parents. Peyton says yeah, but you look at Larry, and it’s pretty cool, they get to pick you. You can tell Brooke starts to think about Sam.

Lucas and Mouth are walking at night. Mouth says he likes it in Omaha. He says it’s not home without Millie. It hasn’t been easy and he’s lost without her. They are making it work though. Luke says at least he gets to go home to Peyton but he hoped he would be on top of the world for a few weeks.
Back at a slamball game, Jamie disses Owen by saying sorry I’m on Team Brooke. Nathan says what was that? Owen says, yeah, I screwed that up. Owen encourages him to play ball but Nathan isn’t sure.
Mouth and Millie talk through webcam and Brooke walks in with cookies as Millie walks out. Millie added be a mom to the end of her list.
Lucas watches Mouth on the show talking about a football player giving up $68 million to spend time with his family. Lucas gets a call from Peyton. He says he’s packing. He says he’s coming home. They canceled the tour. Peyton wonders why. Lucas says I still have you and the book brought us back together. He says he’ll be home soon. Lucas finishes watching Mouth.

Sam is at the diner.  Brooke sits down with her.  Brooke talks about her family growing up and not having a curfew.  Sam says her mom gave her up when she was 4.  Brooke says she has an extra room if she wants to stay with her.  Sam says she can take care of herself.  Brooke says I know you can but you shouldn’t have to right now.  Brooke says if you’re uncomfortable in my house, you can sleep in my car.
Mick walks up to Peyton in her office.  Mick says I want to give you something meaningful to me.  He gives her the one year chip.  It was Ellie’s the year she was pregnant with Peyton.  It was hard to stay sober and hard to give her up.  Mick says we thought there was a better life for her.  He says Ellie never got over it.  He says he didn’t tell her because he didn’t want to disappoint her.  He says he’s going on tour and apologizes.  He sees her People Always Leave drawing.  He says sometimes it’s a good thing.  He says whatever it’s worth, she’s doing a great job.  She says thank you for giving me up.
Deb walks in and finds roses but it’s Dan and says To Second Chances.  Skills comes in with flowers.  Deb says they’re perfect.
Luke is at the airport.  Mouth comes in and suggests they drive back to Tree Hill.  Mouth says he’s coming home to be with his dream girl and giving up the dream job.  Luke says he’s making him read his book on the way home.
Haley wants to know if he made the team.  Nathan says depends what his wife says.  It’s called slamball and it gives him an in since no one else will give him a tryout.  Haley makes him take shots.  He makes all of them.  She says they are crazy not to give him a tryout and then says go play slamball.
Brooke walks in her apartment with Sam and shows her her room.  She says she’s never had her own room before.  Sam smiles.  Brooke goes in her room and sees good qualities written on her mirror where the others were.  She says, I love you too, P. Sawyer.
Peyton calls Larry.  She just wanted to say I love you and thanks for being my dad.
Nathan and Haley put Jamie to bed.  He says he has nightmares sometimes.  Haley says so do I.  Haley suggests she stay with him.  Nathan gets in bed too.
Lucas and Mouth drive out of Omaha.

Kristen Bell Has Good Taste in Gossip Guys

Posted by Amy with 1 Comment

It’s a hotly debated question here in the E! Online offices and among fans glued to their TVs Monday nights: Who’s the hottest guy on Gossip GirlChace Crawford, Ed Westwick or Penn Badgley?

Well, who better to ask than the voice of Gossip Girl herself, Kristen Bell?

“I’m gonna have to go with Ed!” she confessed at Hollywood Life‘s 5th Annual Hollywood Style Awards. “Ed’s got that really sultry, bad-boy thing going on. I’m digging it!” Not to mention that sexy British accent he has off-camera when he’s not playing Chuck Bass.

We also asked the Forgetting Sarah Marshall star—who was on hand that night to present an award to her stylist, Nicole Chavez—what’s the one thing that never goes out of style?

“Self-confidence,” she answered. “I don’t think it really matters what you’re wearing as long as you feel confident.”

Getting an ego boost the same evening was Sophia Bush, who was honored as the New Hollywood Style Icon.

“I feel like a little girl who just had her first kiss!” the One Tree Hill star giddily exclaimed in her acceptance speech.

And while the cast of 90210 was given Hollywood Style People’s Choice Awards, not everyone knows their names just yet.

Bebe founder and Fashion Visionary winner Manny Mashouf thanked “MaryLynne” for his award…too bad he was introduced by AnnaLynne McCord.

Exclusive Interview: James Lafferty of ‘One Tree Hill’

Posted by blueaeryn with 19 Comments

Even when he’s kissing evil nannies or simmering in rage due to temporary paralysis, Nathan remains one of the most grounded, relatable characters on One Tree Hill.  His relationship with Haley forms the emotional backbone of the show, and the Scott family only became more interesting with the addition of Jamie in season 5.  The next few episodes of the series will find Nathan joining a Slamball team, which he hopes will get him back on the path toward NBA glory.

I recently had a chance to sit down with James Lafferty to discuss what’s coming up for his character.  He talked about filming the Slamball scenes, what’s in the future for Nathan and Haley, and whether Dan’s recent heroics will get him back in his son’s good graces.  Read on for the mp3 and complete transcript of the interview.

This is Don with BuddyTV, and today I’m talking to James Lafferty, who plays Nathan on One Tree Hill.  Nathan is going to be getting involved in a Slamball league pretty soon.  Can you talk a little bit about what Slamball is and how he’s going to get involved in that?

Slamball is sort of a hybrid sport.  It’s a mix between football, basketball and hockey with trampolines thrown in.  It’s a full-contact sport, so it’s pretty rough.  It’s a really exciting, high-octane sport.  The character of Nathan is trying to make his return to the world of professional basketball, and he’s running into a bunch of dead ends, because nobody wants to take a gamble on him because of his injury a while back.  He needs to prove his physicality again, so he decides to take the opportunity offered to him to play Slamball, to kind of showcase his athletic ability and the fact that he’s back.

How is it different for you filming the Slamball scenes compared to your regular basketball scenes?

It’s much different.  We use the same choreographer, Brendan Kirsch, that choreographs basketball.  Brendan Kirsch was actually one of the original coaches of Slamball, and it’s sort of how he segued into the entertainment business.  We had the opportunity to have a seasoned Slamball veteran coach choreographing the actual Slamball, so it went really smooth, the transition from basketball to Slamball.  Actually shooting it, it’s worlds different.  It’s a different floor, you’re not on a hardwood floor, it’s a spring-loaded wooden floor, and all the plays and all the action are on trampolines that are underneath the basket.  I’ve never had to choreograph hits before, but Slamball is a full-contact sport when you’re on an open floor, so guys are just getting taken out, checked against the boards, checked to the floor, things like that.  It was definitely a whole different monster, but it was a lot of fun.

Do they let you do all of that yourself, or do you have a stunt person who has to do that?

They had to use a double for me for one setup.  I won’t give away what it is, but I think the fans will probably know.  As far as all the Slamball playing, I was able to do all of that myself.  I was pretty excited about that.

Is Nathan using the opportunity to get the attention of NBA, or is he going to stick with the Slamball for a while?

That remains to be seen.  I think Nathan’s ultimate goal is the NBA, to play professional basketball and get back to the level that he was at before he got injured.  Slamball isn’t necessarily the way to achieve that goal, but I think Nathan’s going to stick with it as long as he’s physically able to, and until he catches the eye of somebody who’s willing to give him another chance.

One of the more emotional episodes earlier this season involved Quentin’s death.  What was your reaction when you found out he was going to die?

I was pretty shocked.  I think we were all shocked.  Quentin was a really well-written character, and he had a good place in the hearts of all the other characters.  He was just another one of those characters that was introduced and got to do a 180.  I think the audience was expecting to see that transition play out a little bit more, like it has with other characters in the past.  To have that taken away, it just — especially reading the script, I wasn’t expecting it at all.  None of us were.  It was a little bit of a shock.

What was it like filming the more emotional scenes with Jackson Brundage?

I’d say it’s actually easier to play the emotion when you’re dealing with a child that’s hurting, or that doesn’t understand why they’re hurting or what the situation is.  It’s a little bit more heartbreaking, and it’s easier to let it touch you I think.  That’s just coming from my perspective as an actor.  It’s hard to say that you enjoy doing things like that, because they’re not fun or anything, but it’s definitely rewarding in a way.

Chad Michael Murray has written an episode for later in the season.  Have you read that script, and do you ever want to try anything behind the scenes?

I haven’t read the script.  I don’t know what the lifespan of the show’s going to be after this season, so it never really occurred to me to try and write for the show or direct for the show.  I kind of enjoy my role on the show, and I like to stick to that, keep my life as stress-free as I can for right now.  But who knows, I’m young, and maybe later in life after I’ve got more experience I’ll feel the need or want to tackle that role.  As for right now, I’m pretty happy with the way things are.

I talked to you last year and you mentioned that you didn’t think Nathan would ever forgive Dan.  Is that going to change now that Dan saved Haley and Jamie’s lives?

I don’t think so.  I think the audience is going to continue to see that icy relationship between Dan and Nathan.  I think Nathan has been back and forth with Dan a few too many times to let him back in the way that he used to.  I’d probably stick to my claim that Nathan will never really forgive Dan.

Nathan and Haley had a lot of drama last year with the nanny storyline and Nathan’s paralysis.  What’s the focus for the couple this year?

I think the focus for Nathan and Haley will be less on the actual relationship between Nathan and Haley, and more on what they need to achieve as individuals.  I think Nathan and Haley have been through so much as a couple and had their relationship tested so many times, I think they’ve pretty much proven they can handle anything that’s thrown at them.  I think the real test now is whether the both of them can make themselves happy, and achieve their dreams that they gave up pretty early in life to have a child.

Aside from One Tree Hill, you have a role in the sequel to Donnie Darko that’s being filmed now.  Can you talk about that role and how that came about?

They were interested in me while we were on our hiatus between season 5 and season 6, and I read the script.  I heard that it was the sequel to Donnie Darko, and I wasn’t too excited about that initially, but I read the script and it was incredibly interesting.  It wasn’t obvious in the way I thought it was going to be, and it was very much like the original in that it really made you think, and there was really no one answer to the way things played out.  I know that sounds very vague and generalized, but I can’t give anything away.  It really was intriguing to me, so I decided to do it, and the role was really great as well.  I’m anxious to see how it turned out.

How does that character differ from Nathan?

Completely.  It’s completely different than anything that I’ve ever done.  I’d say that the only similarity is that both the guys look alike, because they’re both me.  Other than that, I don’t think there’s any similarities.

Mark Schwahn recently signed on for another season of One Tree Hill.  Would you be willing to sign on to that?  Is that something you’re interested in?

I think there’s a lot of variables when you talk about something like that.  There’s a lot of things to consider.  I would never say absolutely not, but at this point I don’t know who else would want to come back, I don’t know under what circumstances it would be.  We’re just trying to focus on making season 6 the best it can possibly be in case it is our last.
