Chad is watching a movie in his room and his cell rings. It’s Peyton. Lucas says he’s going through the scripts. Says he’s reminiscing. There is a storm outside. Lucas says he’s fighting the urge to fight Julian. He sees the dove pendant and asks about it. She says her dad got her it. He says to be careful. He’ll be at home writing. He watches the movie and he’s transformed to Karen’s Cafe back in 1941. People are dancing, eating, talking. Lucas is snapping at the top of the steps, watching it all. He goes through the crowd talking to everyone. Mouth is drunk and Lucas says to calm down. Mouth says it’s power of the press and he’s working on something big that will shake up the whole town. Skills plays the piano and Lucas stops by. Brooke is in a red dress at the bar. Lucas goes to talk to her. Problems with men and money..he could help. She says she made her dress. He says he doesn’t mix business and pleasure. She says just pleasure then? She says he’ll be back. Luke talks to Nathan the bartender. Luke says it’d be good to know when he was leaving. He says his room is still open.
Haley is putting on hose listening to the radio. Dan walks in and turns it off. He says he’s checking in on his singer. Haley is upset. He says that’s how you talk to the man that saved you? He says he wants her back. She says she’s not going back to that hellhole. Dan kisses her. She fights him off and says one day someone will stand up to him. Dan says he’ll be watching her and break a leg.
An announcer introduces Haley James. She sings. Nathan looks at Haley and says he’s a nobody compared to her. She’s a somebody. Luke says to go get her. Nathan asks what Luke wants. He says nothing, he has everything he wants at Karen’s Cafe.
Dan walks in with Peyton. Nathan says they have a problem. Luke says he’ll take care of it. Julian walks up to a table and tells them to move it or lose it. Dan, Peyton and Julian sit at the table. Brooke walks by and Dan stops her and asks about the money she owes him. Brooke says something is in the works. Luke walks up and asks if he needs help. Dan says he thought it was his club since it’s his singer. Lucas says his is down the road without customers. He demands Haley back. Luke says she’s free and she wants to stay. He said Dan is free to go. Dan says he remembers the club was good when his mom ran it. He says she was always hospitable. Julian breaks a glass. Owen as a police officer walks up and says that’s enough. Julian, Dan and Peyton walk out. Luke gives a round on the house and Haley keeps singing.

Haley walks by the bar. A guy tries to harass Haley. Nathan saves him. He says maybe he should buy him another drink. Haley says why? He says it gave the bartender an excuse to talk to the singer. Haley says maybe give him two. One for him and one for me. She walks off.
Dan tells Julian to leave him and Peyton in the car. He says your mom made me promise to look after you. I saw you making eyes at Lucas. She says I wasn’t. He says don’t make me a liar. He says go to bed and lets her out. Julian says I believe you, I know you only have eyes for me and slaps her on the butt and lets her through the gate.
Mouth says he had a few too many as he leaves Karen’s Cafe. Mouth says I used to be the best reporter and I’m working on something big.
Luke goes back in the club and runs into Brooke. She says last chance. He says those were nice days we had. She said sorry I broke your heart. Skills says are you having trouble holding your whiskey because you just let Brooke Davis go. Lucas tears up her bar tab. He says one day Brooke Davis going to change the world.
Brooke catches a taxi outside. She doesn’t have enough money and says she’s walk. She gives a homeless man her money. Dan stops in his car at her. She says she doesn’t have his money. He expects a return on his investment. She spent it on her garter line. She wants more time. He says she has until midnight the next night or else. Julian offers to rough her up but he says no and to get the nosy cop. Mouth hears it all where he fell down coming out of the club.

Nathan and Haley sit after everyone is gone. They make small talk. Lucas goes through mail and stops. Haley says she settled here and got stuck at Dan’s and then Lucas saved her. She says she’ll stay awhile. Nathan says they miss Karen and she would approve. Nathan says he might ask her out sometime and Haley says he should stop wondering and ask her. Luke brings him a letter from the military.
Peyton walks in and she says her car broke down. He says what so Dan can beat me up? She says Dan’s not with her. Outside, Luke looks at the car. He says he’s not really a mechanic. She says no one ever stands up to Dan that way. She says he thinks the confrontation made him respect him. Luke says he’s sorry, he can’t figure out the car. She said you wouldn’t mind an old-fashioned walk home would you? He says sure. She drops a spark plug behind her.
They walk over a bridge lit up. She talks about being a nurse. She said do you think I’m pretty. Luke says I don’t know you well enough to say that. She says you don’t talk much. He says he’s not the gabby kind. She says what does a girl have to do for some interesting conversation short of throwing myself at you? Luke asks why she associates with Dan. She says nevermind. He persists. She says it’s a long story. She says her mother and Dan were in love and he promised to take care of her. She’s her own woman, he just goes out with her. She says I’ve been locked up my whole life and I need freedom and love. She spins on the bridge.
Nathan and Haley dance at the club. Nathan tells Haley about the letter. He has to report the next night. He wants to spend his last night with her. They kiss.
Lucas and Peyton walk. She says she wants to make her own decisions. She came back because she needs something different and he is the first thing that is. He says you are. She says what? He says you asked if you are pretty and he says you are but it’s your heart that makes you beautiful. They get to her place. She says no one knows about Dan. He won’t say. He says there’s a sign at the bar that says people always leave but he says stay while. Maybe they can do it sometime. He says would it be alright…? She said just shut up and do it. He kisses her.
Brooke comes around the corner and smiles.

Nathan and Haley sit in a gazebo. He tells her he loves her and has since the first time he saw her. He says he’s not afraid of dying. She says he’s not going to die, he’s going to come home to her. She says she’s got a crazy idea. They kiss.
Brooke walks into a garage to talk to Dan. She says she has information about Peyton. She says Peyton and Lucas were together last night. He doesn’t believe her. He insists she’s lying and tells them to get her out. She says it’s a shame about Peyton’s mother. Consider my debt forgiven. He says not yet. She has to do one more thing.
Skills leaves the club. Julian is at the car and says he could do better at the comedy club. They break his hand in the car door.

Peyton goes to see Luke at the car. She gives him her necklace. She says it came from a sailor when she was little. She leaves. He says stay awhile. Peyton says she’ll hold out until that night cap. She wouldn’t want a girl to look too needy.
Dan has Owen tied up torturing him. He says he reminds him of Keith Scott.

Dan has Mouth. Peyton walks up and says to stop it. She said all this time she didn’t want to believe he was evil. Mouth says he killed Lucas’ uncle Keith. Julian punches Mouth. Peyton says is that true?? Dan punches Peyton and tells her to get in the car. Julian hangs him off the bridge.
Nathan and Haley are in bed together. She said she’s dreaming about their house and children. He wants a girl just like her. She says a boy. He says we can name him James. You see a marriage certificate on the table.
Dan says Mouth should beg for his life and he might let him free. Mouth spits in his face. They push him into the water off the bridge.
Peyton goes to get Lucas and Skills and the club. Luke gets his gun. Peyton says we can leave and be free. He says he’s hurt everyone including you. He needs to pay. He says are you sure you want to leave with me? Luke says Skills I want you to have the place. Luke and Peyton leave. Two cars come and meet them on the street and block them.

Lucas shoots Julian.  Dan comes up from the other way.  Luke points his gun at him.  Dan turns around and says I didn’t even shoot him in the back.  Brooke comes out of the car.  Dan turns back on him with a gun.  Luke puts his gun down.  He tells him to finish her job.  She gets the gun and points it at Lucas and then around at Dan and there were no bullets in the gun.  Dan punches Brooke.  Skills attacks Dan.  Luke has his gun.  Luke turns around and Peyton is shot in the stomach.  Luke says you and me are going to leave.  Peyton says I love you and dies.  A storm starts.
Haley takes Nathan to the plane.  He says I’m coming back to you.  She says she’ll wait for him…always and forever.  They kiss.
Lucas holds Peyton.  Dan watches.  Brooke starts to cry.  Luke pulls out her necklace and looks at it.  He says you’re free now, Peyton.  He starts to cry.  A cell phone rings in his pocket then he’s back to the present.  It’s Peyton.  She says did I wake you up?  She says she’ll be home soon,  He says I just had the craziest dream.  He says don’t ever leave me.  She says Ok, bye.  At TRIC, she falls down with a pain in her side.
