Episode 12 You Have to be Joking (Anatomy of the Devil’s Brain) Recap

Q is standing in a river and Chad is quoting a poem.
Jamie measures Nathan on the basketball court. Haley is also there. He is 6′2″. Haley says Jamie got the piano from her. He has a talent show that night. Haley asks Nathan if he wants to do the idea he has. He says yes. They all leave.
Brooke comes in on Sam helping a guy at our window.
Brooke and Sam argue over breakfast. Sam says his family beats on him and needs a place to stay. Sam says nothing happened. Brooke says tell her when someone stays over and he has to sleep on the couch.
Luke goes to see Julian. He says he’ll do the movie.
Peyton is at the doctor. He is getting her history. They are running tests.
Julian says to consider it a test. If she doesn’t fall in love with him, it’s really over.
Sam and the guy are at the restaurant. Sam says as if someone would do it with him.
Sam goes to talk to Julian. They know each other from the concert. Sam says she needs help.
Nathan and Jamie are looking for something. They are talking about the B league. Jamie says he should wear the #12 jersey. Jamie says he’s not pumped up for the talent show. He wanted to tell jokes. Nathan says to do his best.
Jamie brings the shoes into Haley. Nathan goes to practice. They plan to meet back up at the talent show. Jamie says all he can do is his best.
Sam asks Julian to read her writing. He wants to know about Brooke and her clothing line for his movie. He gets her phone and puts his number in his phone. Maybe he can steal something of hers. He asks if Brooke is single.
Brooke nails Sam’s window shut. Millie is there complaining about Gigi and the hug. Brooke says she’s harmless.
Mouth and Gigi are at work. Gigi says she has a going away party at 6:30. Mouth says he has to be at talent show but he’ll have one drink.
Peyton tells Mia she has to get back in the studio. Mia says she has a couple ideas but no songs. Peyton says the label wants her to listen to a CD and pick a track. Luke calls and she says she was expecting another calls. She says she left early for a meeting with a band (lying). Luke says he’s going to LA.
At basketball practice, Nathan checks in. Nathan says he wasn’t invited. The guy recognizes him but says he can’t be there. A guy recognizes him and says he’s with them.
Brooke is designing at COB and starts dancing and Julian walks in. Julian suggests she should do the movie wardrobe. She resists. He gets a call from Sam. Brooke gets mad he’s talking to Sam. He leaves and says think about it.
Nathan writes Q’s name and number on one show and Jamie’s name on the other. The other guys give him a hard time but he does well in tryouts. The coaches are impressed.
Sam is at home and she says Brooke was skanky in high school but now she’s cold. Brooke tells her she’s frigid now because she was attacked in her store right before she moved in. Sam is concerned. Brooke is angry and she has another set of issues with Owen and she’s trying to let it go. And for the record she was slutty and she wishes she wasn’t because she doesn’t get to take it back. Sam says she likes talking to Brooke.
Lucas walks into an office in LA where music is playing loudly. The guy reads some of his script to him and then does a line of cocaine (not sure what drug LOL). He says he loves the script.
Jamie comes out in a little tux and practices the song with Haley. He messes up a little and says he’s a little nervous.
The other guy trying out recognizes Nathan. They measure his height…still 6′2″. They divide them up to play. He says he’s going for point guard. He has a flashback to Q telling him to play point even though no one has ever said he should do that. Nathan has a voiceover about numbers not meaning anything if he plays well. The coaches are impressed.
Mouth shows up at Gigi’s party at work. Mouth has a present for her. It’s the tshirt she slept in. She suggests him getting her out of it sometime.
Dixon tells Luke he’ll fix his script. He suggests Haley dying. Luke says it didn’t happen. Dixon says the little girls watching are gold. Dixon then suggests what if Lucas and Haley gets married. He says audiences get crazy over who ends up together. He says to think about it.
Brooke tells Julian she’s not interested. She doesn’t trust him with Peyton or Sam. Julian says he puts the bar high when he makes a movie. Sometimes the timing works out to get his wish-list people and sometimes it doesn’t. He tells her good luck.
Nathan checks his phone and hurries to the talent show.
Mia gives Peyton the CD back and says she didn’t listen to it. Peyton says she’s not in the mood. Mia says she’s not the same girl. Peyton says she wishes she was the same because she liked her. Mia says you’re not protecting me from the label anymore. Peyton says she has but she needs to work. Mia says she won’t do it. Peyton says she’s being ungrateful. Mia says I’ve done everything you wanted but I won’t do this. Peyton says she doesn’t want her on the label anymore. Life’s too short, trust me. You see the screen on her computer that says Ovarian/Uterine Cancer.
At the talent show, a little girl plays piano well. Jamie looks on and says he should have told jokes. You see Mouth walking in late. He gets a picture of Gigi in her underwear on the news desk. Nathan, Millie and Brooke show up. Jamie comes out and introduces himself. He messes up and stops and starts again. He messes up again. He says “This is awkward.” and people laugh and then says “How’s everyone doin’ tonight?” He messes up again. He starts making jokes. He finishes the song and says “Something like that, what do you want from me, I’m 5.” He gets a standing ovation.
Sam is getting coffee and is with her friend. She defends liking Brooke even though she gave her a hard time at the beginning. He says when you first met her someone should put her in her place…so….Sam realizes he’s the one that attacked her.
Dixon gets a massage and Luke and him are still discussing what to do.
Peyton gets a call from the doctor and she says what does that mean?
Sam comes home crying and gives her back her drawings. Sam says the attack was her fault and leaves. Brooke starts to break down.
Julian is drinking at TRIC and talking to Owen. Brooke comes in and asks Owen if he saw Sam tonight. She says she has to find Sam. Owen says she hasn’t been there but it’s not like she’s going to stay with her forever. She says it’s not the same this time but with you it is. Brooke says I’ll do it by myself but don’t call me anymore.
Mouth walks in and she’s holding his cellphone. She’s upset and leaves.
Haley and Nathan talk about Jamie. Haley says what’s next with our comeback? Nathan says it’s either a yes or no. If it’s a no then it’s the end and he’s ok with it.
Mia looks at the CD while lying on the pool table.
Millie drinks at the bar and Owen is there. Millie says it was a horrible night. Owen says me too and pours another drink. He says he hasn’t a drink in over eight years but it’s going to change. She says she hasn’t sex in 22 years and tonight it’s going to change.
Julian runs into Brooke. He says he’s not looking for Sam but Brooke tells the girl about Sam and she says Julian was looking for him too.
Nathan and Haley put Jamie to bed. Nathan says he did great. Haley reads him an old-school poem and that’s the voiceover.
You see Owen and Millie drinking together.
Q walks into the dark side of the basketball court with his cape.
Peyton is crying and calls Luke and says she has to tell him something.
Brooke goes home.
Sam gets a ride with her friend. She’s crying. The guy in the front seat is his brother and it’s the guy from the gas station when Q was robbed.

yeah so i totally didn’t see it coming that Brooke’s attacker is the same guy who killed Q… BUT at the same time, i don’t really see what the whole point of that is. and Peyton is SO pregnant. there’s no way Mark would have focused on cancer as MUCH as he did in this episode if she were to really have it… he wouldn’t make it that easy and that obvious. she’s cleeeearly pregnant. and HELLO!!!! BRULIAN!!!!!

Wow, that was an intense episode tonight.
I thought it really highlighted each of the characters in unique ways and we start seeing some of the stories progressing.
Loved Brooke tonight and hate to admit it, but I liked Julian too. Don’t know if I can trust him, but he and Brooke may have a little somethin somethin.
Quentin is sorely missed and the way they tied the story to Nathan and his tryouts was so well done.
Very interesting ending and a very ingenious way to re-introduce the scum that killed Quentin. We know this lunatic will strike again, and knowing Mark, he will make this very intense. I would like to see this bum go toe to toe with Dan.
James Van Der Beek is so good and I loved his line about viewers wanting to see the couple get together in the end. He was so referring to Dawson’s Creek, and it was very funny.
This was an all around really well written and directed episode.

and call me crazy, but i definitely think that at the end they were implying that Jack’s brother killed Q, AND attacked Brooke. i think Jack wanted to get revenge on Brooke, so he went to HIS BROTHER, and asked him to attack her. the guy in the clip from her attack looks too tall to be Jack, i think it’s her brother

it is so funny because early today, we were like when is brooke’s attack going to be brought up again and we were all like maybe much later in the season, but we were wrong. im not sure if I can watch the episode on jan 5 because ill be home from school and my dad hogs the tv every nite. i might just have to beg to watch my OTH.lol.

I totally agree Jamesgal I have no idea where Haley went, she was absent the whole episode and I swear she hasn’t had a decent storyline that was all her own ever! Idk she probably has yeah with the tour and whatever, but we saw more of Nathan’s side to that and I just feel like Haley is so neglected as a character and I hate it.

I just want them to give her a good storyline as well as being a loving wife to Nathan and a loving mom to Jamie. I mean is that too much to ask. I don’t think peyton has cancer she is pregnant because if she had cancer she would not have called lucas so quick, she would sat there by herself facing the reality of it or at least strugling to tell lucas. And she seem less worried when she said I have to tell you something her eyes was just watery from worrying earlier.
I thought owen was a jerk and he still is a jerk please bring chase back. You know in season 5 it was kind of hard to believe owen did not know who brooke was after his best frined chase told him about brooke davis from tree hill who started a fashion line!! just saying…
we had several cliffhangers, sam leaving with the killer, peyton scare, horney owen & jealous/angry milley, nathan waiting to here if he made the team,
and is lucas and haley going to be romatically in the movie!!
January 5th I am so angry right now, I just can’t wait

Okay don’t worry Leytoner’s, P. Sawyer won’t have cancer, a doctor does not give you that kind of news over the phone, that is done in person. My take is that she was pregnant but miscarried and we don’t necessarily know that it was Luke she was calling, probably one of her friends. Whether she’s pregnant or miscarried, I would think either way she would want to tell him that in person. She seemed too sad and if she was having pains for a few days I’m thinking miscarriage and she’s going to get dark & depressed over it and do the OTH thing by not telling anyone about it like Brooke with her attacker.
Speaking of…..I think in next episode or two she will be confronting her attacker and I just hope she has her handy dandy handgun handy when she does, I think it will be a physical confrontation, probably trying to protect Sam or he’ll try to rob her again since he knows she’s got money, whatever happens I have a feeling that Julian will come to her rescue and she’ll warm up to him a little. I also hope whatever happens and I’m not saying this because I want her to get hurt, she’s my favorit, but I do want to see her in the hospital. She is the only one of the Core 5 never had a hospital stay and I would like to see her the one getting the attenton for a change and maybe this will get her Mom back in town and she’ll see that her Mom really does care about her.
And I saved my last rant for those 3 morons….Mouth, Millie and Owen! The writers just messed them up for this episode and wrote all 3 characters SO OUT OF CHARACTER all on the same day….YAY for us NOT!! Mouth’s an ass for letting this GiGi crap go on for as long as it did knowing his girlfriend wasn’t happy and tonight he was off the charts with his new red hair. Millie could have gotten drunk at any other bar in Tree Hill, but she had to go to Tric and to Owen, knowing he and Brooke are still dealing with some baggage, and practically beg him for sex and the idiot will give in to her cause he’ll be drunk. After 8 years of sobriety he is gonna blow that over a little argument with Brooke. Now I think they were all F**cked up tonight and I don’t approve, but I also can’t see Brooke getting too mad at Millie & Owen if she finds out, since that will be pretty much the same thing she did with Nathan 5 minutes after he broke up with Peyton…so this should be interesting how Brooke handles this.

o by the way who ever wrote the recaps left out an important scene with the whole peyton thing. i might b wrong i jus finish watching and everything had escape from my mind but after the talk with mIa the camera zoom in we see ovarian cancer i think but than a few scenes later she got a call from her doctor and he told her something. and she replied with “what does that mean”. now if it was cancer she would not be replying ” what does tat mean”. there for it has to be something else.

ok a couple of weeks ago a few brucas fans were saying they don’t want brooke to end up with peytons “leftovers” now they are all for julian LOL. I hope it works out but I hear chase is coming back and I like chase better.

I especially enjoyed this episode, I think it was due to the fact that Lucas didn’t have much airtime or speaking parts…..LOVED IT!!

Honey, Julian is shady and there is a reason why peyton doesn’t trust him and I don’t think its because he broke up with her, if you remember in the flash back with him and P he was saying to someone on the phone “your not the only lying producer in town”. But I could be wrong. the writers always try to make us think one way and then it turned out to be the opposite so who knows.

Julian and Brooke would be cute. He seems like an okay guy right now. I hope Mark keeps it that way and doesn’t turn him into an ass. We’ll see, I guess. I don’t know.

Still, this whole sharing thing kind of bugs. I mean, the core three girls ALL slept with Nathan. Brooke and Peyton BOTH slept with Lucas. Jake and Lucas BOTH slept with Nikki. Tanje, i think he does not mix business and personal life. he might be a liar in his job, but he seems sweet in his personal life. the thing that really showed he me he was sweet when he was looking for sam, but did not want to tell brooke. it shows that he wasnt doing it to impress brooke but was doing it because he cared.

fyi. the guy who recognized nathan was the guy who offered him the coaching job in that episode before slamball happened a couple months ago. his name was bobby something. i forget the last name. but it was the guy who offered him the coaching job for sure.

Ok the voice over at the beginning. Not so sure that was Lucas. There are seconds that sound like him, but in a way it sounds like Julian. It seems too menacing. The dead indeed line. I’d really like to know who it is for sure. And no I don’t want to hear that it’s Lucas cause he said a word like this or a word like that.

I’ve been all for Brulian since the addition of Austin, I know it’s weird because he was with Peyton. But I’ve been so over Brucas because Luke and Peyton could never decide who they want. Brooke will always have a love for Lucas because she knows that he doesn’t belong with her and even though she loves, she was okay with not fighting for him. Remember, Brooke wants the guy who will fight for over. Owen didn’t stand by her with the Angie storyline and Julian is the guy for Brooke. He doesn’t have to be a bad guy, look at last nights epi., and he doesn’t have to be completely inlove with her from the beginning, it’s the kind of love story that you know there is chemistry but you have to wait and see where love takes you. And I agree with a lot of you, Julian cares about people, like Sam and this will make him a good person in Brooke’s eyes. Remember she doesn’t really know who Julian, she is just sticking by her friend Peyton. And Peyton has never said that Julian was no good. Julian left Peyton because like “Brooke”, even though Julian love Peyton, knew that Peyton didn’t love him back and he had to let her go. Brulian would be a match made in OTH.

I agree Brulian would be soooo awesome…I’ve loved Julian ever since he walked up to Lucas on the porch…I know he has history with Peyton but oh well…I think the whole thing with sam will probably bring Julian and Brooke closer well I am really hoping anyway

Crazy epi. I really hope Peyton is preggers!!!! I think that it would be way to obvious if it were cancer, and like someone said earlier you don’t get a cancer diagnosis over the phone. But I feel that Peyton would want to tell Lucas in person either way. Maybe she just called him to tell him that she needs to see him in person to talk to him. Anyway–I am so confused now. I hate that we have to wait…oh well thank god for spoilers we will probably know something with in a couple of weeks…right?

I agree with everyone else that Peyton is pregnant. She would not get a cancer diagnosis over the phone. I think in the end she was either calling her dad or Derek. I really think she would tell Lucas in person. I think she will wait to tell Lucas and feel the situation out like randomly talking to him about kids to see how he will react.
I really wanted to dislike Julian but I’m hooked. I loved the scene where he was leaving the cafe and he threw the coffee away (like he said he never touches the stuff). I think he is good fit for Brooke.

is it jus me or anyone else think the millie=owen thing is stupid? millie chose to be a virgin by choice rite so she want to save herself for marriage why have a one night stand with her bestfriend(?)’s ex now after finding out mouth “cheated” on her? Mouth shouldnt have a big havy affect on if she should loose her virginity or not…tat plot line was kinna stupid and jus doesnt make sense to me. and y her bestfriend(?)’s ex?

ok so she’s lookin up cancer on the net but we’re not actually told she has it are we? i’m in the middle of watchin the ep and only caught a few bits so far. also i think whatever the outcome from the doctor, pregnant or cancer, it’s not something peyton would tel to lucas over the phone so my guess is it’s not lucas she’s talkin to. could be larry, or derek maybe. i still think they’re jst tryin to throw us off

irishmolly as i mention before near the end she got a phone call from her doctor and he told her something and we hear her asking him “what does that mean” which to say its not wat she expected to be which is ovarian/uterine cancer. she was probably doing on of those diagnosis online thing like everyone when they have unknown pains..(i do it too) so i can possitively say we can rule out cancer?

annie i’m thinkin its not cancer, i havent got to the part yet where she gets the call from her doctor but i did skip to the end when she makes a call. i really dont think its cancer, i think we’re jat bein led on to believe it is cause its gone on hiatus now til jan. we’re goin to be left thinkin its cancer, when i really think she’s pregnant. i mean if she is pregnant, its not somethin she’s expectin to hear, and she’s prob in shock which would lead to her seeming kinda worried or cryin even, because she doesnt know how to react, is that makin sense?

Wow… another episode without Dan or Deb!! ahhh.. what are they doing, also no sex of course. Abstinence is being practiced all through Tree Hill, with only kisses on the forehead…how dramatic! At least we are seeing some good OTH drama pick up.
As for Sam, I think she is annoying as can be. Did anyone see her facial expression in the car, looked like a monster. I hope that guy drives off and we never hear from Jack, him, or Sam again and I will be just fine!! Brooke and Julian need to have some hot scenes, and I agree with everyone about how out of character it was for millie and owen. Oh well, they are annoying as hell too.
Just a thought, but what if they are not having a Haley storyline because they do not expect her to agree to a 7th season and do not want to get her wrapped up in some serious drama? Maybe they are just letting her hang out because they don’t expect her to return. There has to be some reason they are just letting her sit on her hands!!
I guess Tree Hill high school is closed obviosly. No haley teaching, no sam in school, no basketball team…. hmmmm….

i totally think it’s cancer of the uterus…i was really skeptical about it before but now i’m thinking she’s got it and the doctor is going to tell her that if she wants children in the future she’ll have to use a surrogate mother…and of course peyton would ask brooke…i could totally see brooke either offering or accepting peyton’s offer…it would really case some drama because brooke would be caring peyton and lucas’ baby…that would be a fun twist in the show lol
