It looks like Chad Michael Murray might not be the only longtimer bidding adieu to One Tree Hill come Season 7.
Not long after the CW announced another pick-up for the serial, The Chad’s leading lady, Hilarie Burton, issued what for all intents and purposes is a goodbye message to her fans.
All but confirming an online report that she, like Murray, won’t be continuing her run, Burton says in a video posted to her Wilmington, North Carolina-based production company’s website, “I want to clear up one thing that’s very important to me. I want everyone to know how much I love Peyton Sawyer, and my crew…. I don’t want anyone to think I’m abandoning a place that’s been very good to me.”
Occasionally pausing and visibly trying to maintain her composure, she says, “I’ve had a really good run, and I wish I had creative control over the show, and I don’t. But if I did, it would go on for a million years, and Peyton Sawyer would cry for you all the time — because she does that.” So true.
Burton’s gloriously selfless spin on the otherwise sad sitch? Another season of Tree Hill means ongoing employment for the show’s North Carolina crew.

A spokesperson for the CW has no comment on the Season 7 status of either Burton or Murray.

i think its strange that they havent confirmed or denied anything- maybe talks are still going on and it could all turn around, stay positive OTHers!!!

Yes it does! And i personally think it all is up in the air….no one really knows anything at this point….there could be a chance everyone comes back for one last year….

I have been a big supporter of there being a season 7 with or without Chad, but if neither of them come back, the season 6 finale will be the end for me. This show has always been about the core 5 for me and without Chad and Hilarie there will just be too much missing for me. I mean with just Chad gone there was so much story potential for Hilarie and the rest of the cast, but if you take away both of them you lose Breyton, Laley, Paley, and Neyton. It’s just to big of a loss and I don’t understand how they can continue.
Despite having read what the video basically says, I have been unable to bring myself to actually watch it. If she is as visibly upset as I am reading, I will not be able to keep from crying, and just knowing that it all might really go down like this is breaking my heart on its on.

It does get sadder. Ive watched it a few times, and its almost a surreal video. Just cant really picture the show going on without her. BUT she will continue on to do amazing things! Thats what she does!!

I agree ^^^^^ it is strange that no one is confirming or denying the stories..thats why I believe there is still a chance the whole cast could come back, especially if its the final season. At least I hope so!

I still have my small hopes that everything will work out, and Hilarie and Chad will all be there happy as ever.
Without them it’s like when you are doing a puzzle
and you finish the whole thing but you are still missing a piece right in the middle, and though it’s done something is still missing.

I’m glad they mentioned in the article about how selfless she was being by genuinely being happy that another season of OTH meant another year of work for her crew. As if I didn’t love or respect the girl enough, that just made me see how truly classy she is.

I was talking to a friend the other day about how perfectly good shows that got ruined, and I said that One tree Hill wouldn’t be like that because Mark cares more than that. Boy was I wrong =/

It’ll be interesting to see if Hilarie’s video makes any difference in things going forward. If the press gets too negative on season 7 (actors being forced out!) will they continue with it? Or will there by enough negative feedback to have them reconsider? Or up the offer to CMM? I can’t remember another instance in which an actor spoke out so quickly about a future season.

I seriously want to cry when I read this. It’s just so unbelievably sad that Hilarie is leaving the show, even though I really understand her ’cause I don’t want another season because they’re gonna fuck it up. One of the biggest reasons I watch OTH is for Peyton and Lucas, and to see them both gone, breaks my heart. It’s gonna be a sucky season 7, that’s for sure.

hilarie is such a class act! i watched the vid last night, and just rewatched it again, and you can tell that she geniunely cares about the crew and is really thankful for everything. i love her!
as for me, i can honestly say that if its confirmed that both chad and hil are leaving (which i think is only a matter of time) then the season 6 finale is my last ep of oth. one tree hill isn’t one tree hill without lucas and peyton.

Word is really spreading around. I will tune into season 7 but it definately won’t be worthwhile, can’t wait to watch Monday nights for me. I can’t see how the ratings will get–so many fanbases are losing out with BOTH of them leaving…

I have been a huge fan of Hillaries since the beginning, and I don’t know why, but something makes me feel that she’s just trying to throw us off. I think Mark is well aware that there would be NO WAY a seventh season would survive without those two. I mean once they finally got together, the fan base picked back up again. So unless he wants to completely throw us off, I think they will be back.
I bet he’s going to make them leave somewhere for the season 6 ending, then bring them back and have everyone saying WTF!?!?!?!!

Sounds like this wasn’t Hilarie’s choice? Maybe with CMM not coming back the creative forces wanted to make sure it was end-game for Leyton by writing them off together resulting in end-Hilarie Burton….very sad
Well guess they want to keep the Leyton fans pleased with a happy ending…..but is it???

Heather although I agree (since I love Lucas and Peyton), I have to believe Mark has some good reason for allowing this to happen. I choose to believe that because I would get angry otherwise,lol.
Watching Hilarie was emotional and I choose to watch it twice and it was equally emotional. I agree with TV guide in that Hilarie is a classy woman and IF this is the last season for her I will expect it to be difficult to watch.
I have to wonder how Mark intends to make season 7 as compelling without its top 2 stars? He will have to pull some big stunts and a rabbit out of a hat to make it as successful as season 6 or more.

wow, I can’t believe Hilarie isn’t returning either. But maybe it’s for the best, because if Chad leaves and she stays it might be the end of Leyton (the writers might create a storyline where they break up) and I wouldn’t be able to deal with that either.

I keep hoping that this is all just a big ploy, and Mark told Hil to make this video just to freak us all out. I doubt it is, but if it was I would probably kill Mark for doing something like that.

Hilarie, if it turns out that P. Sawyer and Lucas are really gone, I’ll really miss you two. You’ve given us 6 fantastic years and I don’t think we could have asked for more. But if you do change your minds, you can bet I’ll be tuning in again. But just know that you will be greatly missed.

I’m so confused. I hope that mark reads these comments to see how his fans are reacting. I truly believe that if the main 5 are not in season 7 the ratings will go down and I for one will most likely not watch it.
It’s not the same without Lucas and peyton. I mean who will be a brother to nathan? A beat friend to Haley? A best friend to Brooke? An uncle to jamie? All of these roles will be gone without them. I find it very depressing.
I think hilarie is great and even though her video was terribly heartbreaking, it was great to hear her say really good things about the cast and telling the fans to still support. I want to watch season 7 with a passion. But before I knew that Lucas and peyton may be leaving, I just don’t think I can bare to watch it.
One question: without leyton what storylines will we get? Nathan and Haley haven’t really had a storyline, there’s mouth and millie but they will be together, an then there’s Brooke. I’d say that season 7 should be called brooke in tree hill! Haha. Shes the only one in my eyes that can have a good storyline! Anyone else agree.?

I honestly, won’t believe any of this until Mark confirms it himself. Even Hil’s video… they could just be screwing with our heads for all we know. And I think we kind of deserve it. But I will have hope until the man speaks.

so i’m thinking that if chad and hilarie don’t continue on into the 7th season, this might happen, lucas and peyton lose the baby and are so upset and just want to get away from it all they join karen, andy and lily on andy’s yacht. but are “brought back” every once in a while via phone conversations but we never actually see their face nor hear their voice.
just a thought.

^^^ Sophia, James and Joy can’t sign a new contract until the season 6 one is up. That how contracts work. Neither James, Joy and Sophia has signed a new contract because they are still in the current one, which ends at the end of this season. Im hoping 1 out of 3, chooses not to resign (preferably JOY) So there still a possibility of ending it this season. OTH can’t possibly continue if 3 main characters are off.

I really don’t want to be a fan of an OTH without Peyton and Lucas like everybody in this blog. And I think that it is not fair ,first of all, for the show, for the cast, for the crew and absolutely for us, the fans. It needs to have an end how it started in the first season with the all five core characters. Because they were the ones who attached us to the show. I also think that if there will be missing characters in season 7, I think the most appropriate decision will be to terminate the show with a magnificent finale in season 6. I did not watch all the episodes up to now again and again for a heartbraking last season. OTH will not be the real OTH without Peyton or Lucas or Brooke or Haley or Nathan.

This is all very surreal information we have been given all at once about the renewal and HB obviously leaving OTH. But I can’t wrap my head around the reasons. Her relationship with Mark is really tight. Her so called husband is/was a Asst. Producer. Her FIL is the exec producer/director. She even started a production company with one of the other producers. She has a ton of connections with not only the cast, but the crew. How in the hell is she going to refrain from going the set in July when filming begins!? I don’t know, I’m just soo sad about this. How can they even begin to think s7 will be great without her? In regards to Chad, everything about his rumored leaving is just that: rumors. Him or any other source hasn’t confirmed anything. He doesn’t even have any movies coming out, like Sophia and James. Hilarie even did a few side projects last year. All Chad did was write and direct this season. Unless that’s what he’ll be focusing on for next season. I’m just rambling, but I will remain positive but it won’t be the same OTH in s7 without Hilarie or Chad.

I agree with you Maira I dont understand why Hillary would be backing out of the show! Out of all the core 5 I would think she would be the one that would stay no matter what because she has so many ties to the show! To me it all sounds fishy! I really just hope everything works out in the end and the show don’t end on a bad note!

The CW will somehow find a way to get all 4 or maybe all 5 back for Season 7. The only OTH actor I can see having a movie career is Sophia, Chad will be a has been in a few years. I think Sophia will be the 1st sign on for Season 7 because she did say if there are more stories to tell she will do it. As for James and Joy of course they will sign on to.
KT, they can sign contracts now if they want. They will most likely sign contracts when Season 6 is done filming in the next month or so. So that gives them all time to think. I think they will all sign on. You just gotta have faith….

I was just expressing my opinion about why HB is leaving. I didn’t bash any of the other actors or someone else who posted. I was just making a COMMENT about the topic. If you read my post clearly I did mention the other actors work they did on the side. I don’t come on here to be immature and fight back and forth with people over my thoughts.

ok, this is seriously heartbreaking!
I really don’t think mark or hilarie would be “messing with our heads” on this one. If that were case i don’t think hilarie would be able to keep a straight face, and considering how emotional she got, it’s definetly real.
BUT nothing has been confirmed yet, and im really hoping that both chad and hil get to stay. I’m also really hoping that IF all this is true, that oth writers rewrite whatever crap they were writing that puts hil and chad off the show.
besides, what’s oth without the original cast of oth?

The sad part about all of this crap is that NOONE has come forth and confirmed anything..Hilarie’s video doesnt confirm anything..shes just tlaking about what would happen if CHAD DID leave the show..that would leave her OUt too..
