StarNewsOnline.com: Help decide the 12 “essential” episodes of “One Tree Hill”
OK “One Tree Hill” fans, it’s time to put on you’re thinking caps. Before the premiere of the 7th season, the StarNews wants to offer late-comers to the “OTH” party a list of “essential” episodes that can get them up to speed. These episodes should embody everything the locally filmed show is about and probably also include a few major plot developments.
So we need your help. I’ve made enough room on the list for two episodes per season, though there is no rule saying you have to pick two from each year. You could pick four from season one, zero from season two, whatever. But there can only be 12 total.

I deffinately think you should have the very first episode. That is what sets the show! I have been watching the show since the very beginning. I am very sad chad and hilarie are leaving, but I will deffinately keep watching. The other characters are great also!! There are a lot of great episodes. It is so hard to choose, but the 1st one should be on there!!! GO ONE TREE HILL!!!!!

I agree, 1st episode should def. be in there. But its hard to choose between the rest. Yes, there are some that you can cut out right away (40’s episode, Dare night) I don’t know, should the school shooting be one of the essentiels? It really did change the course of the show and it was a great episode.

Okay another 2 episodes are 4 years, 6 months and 2 days (unless I got that wrong, we know which one Im talking about) and one of the last two episodes of season 6 I think)

Wow, this is actually like really hard for me lol. I am gonna have to go back all the way through and do process of elimination. ha. Oh yeah, Danika, the shooting has to be in there! A lot definitely came from it and there are a ton of references.

yes i think a good half one be big key episode (school shooting, pilot, etc) but i also think its the small things we all love (brooke giving her letters, nathans dont say i never give you anything, etc) that people remember and fall in love with. so a good mixture

it’s pretty obvious the pilot is a must. The last episode of season 1, to explain the married in high school scenario, to scratch a bit on the naley background. For sure school shooting, and state championship episodes (seasons 3 and 4). Maybe the original psycho Ian/Derek (I mean the very first one when Peyton gets beat up the first time by him and real Derek saves the day), season 4 finale and season 5 premiere, season 6 premiere, the episode Dan gets out of jail, the almost wedding, the actual wedding, and of course season 6 finale. Another few possibilities: brookes final encounter with Rex, and the one where she goes to new York and finds Rachel (if Rachel comes back, new viewers may need more recent background on her). I know it’s more than 12, but 12 is too limiting for me. All episodes are important and amazing. So it’s hard to pick just 12.

WOW thats actually really hard. im not sure if u could sum up all the intense and funny things about One Tree HIll in only 12 episodes!!!!
definately the school shooting, pilot, the season 3 last episode and season 4 1st episode with naley cooper and rachel on the bridge, that was intense. and add some chris keller in there a little,haley on tour, physcho derek,naley married and preggo in high school, add some physcho nannie carrie,

2 from season 2
2 from season 3
3 from season 4
1 from season 5
2 from season 6
and a bonus one – Q’s funeral.

The state championship MUST be in there (409). The episode where Peyton gets drugged at that party and Brooke called Lucas to save her (111).
I would choose more, but I can’t help but feel mad that the 12 they choose will be ones where Brucas looks insubstantial, no doubt.

I completely agree with you, 332303. Its all the little things that I LOVE about OTH. Brooke calling Haley Tutorgirl, Naley and the importance of their bracelet, the Peyton/Brooke/Lucas love triangle throughout a lot of the first 4 seasons, etc. Its just all of it. Hard to pick just 12!

The season 3 finale should be in there, the height of brooke/peyton/luke drama, and the love of naley. One my personal faves. The pilot, the shooting, and the season 4 finale. But I can’t pick more… its too hard.

Then the pilot, the school shooting, the state championship. . . then season 2.01 when Lucas and Keith comes back, the aftermath of the school shooting>>>Idk i think those are the essential!

Well, for someone that has never seen OTH before, and is planning to start during season 7 ….the three main storylines of Seasons 1-6 are pretty much irrelevant (Brooke/Lucas, Peyton/Lucas & Brooke/Peyton). That being said, I had to make a Top 14, because I feel ALL of these are completely necessary, and I’ll explain why….
1. “Are You True” – Season 1, Episode 3
…..shows how the Nathan/Haley relationship started
2. “The Search For Something More” – Season 1, Episode 8
……shows when the Nathan/Haley relationship began to be real
3. “The Games That Play Us” – Season 1, Episode 22
……Nathan & Haley’s 1st Wedding
4. “The Hero Dies in This One” – Season 2, Episode 13
…..Haley leaves on tour with Chris Keller (needed to explaining her singing career, and how her relationship with Nathan had problems)
5. “The Leaver’s Dance” – Season 2, Episode 23
…..Dan’s attempted murder (needed to explain why he kills Keith)
6. “How a Resurrection Really Feels” – Season 3, Episode 9
……Nathan & Haley get back together
7. “With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept” – Season 3, Episode 17
……Dan kills Keith
8. “The Show Must Go On” – Season 3, Episode 22
……Nathan & Haley’s 2nd wedding, Dan finds out it wasn’t Keith who tried to kill him
9. “All of A Sudden I Miss Everyone” – Season 4, Episode 21
……High School Graduation, Jamie is born (This one isn’t really necessary, but I needed at least one from season 4)
10. “I Forgot to Remember to Forget” – Season 5, Episode 5
…..recap of what happened the past 4 years
11. Either Episode 9 or 10 from Season 6
…….either, to introduce Julian
12: “A Hand to Take Hold of the Scene” – Season 6, Episode 14
…..when Brooke begins to like Julian
13. “You and Me,and The Bottle Makes Three Tonight” – Season 6, Episode 17
…….shows Brooke is scared to get in a relationship
14.”Remember Me As a Time of Day” – Season 6, Episode 24
……Brooke finally lets Julian in, Nathan gets in the NBA…..

LovinBrucas, I didnt even think about that. Lucas/Brooke, Lucas/Nathan, Lucas/Peyton, etc. are all really important to OTH as a whole, but ppl who are starting to watch with season 7…its completely irrelevant and unnecessary. I like you choices :]

It explains every thihng about season 7 that they might need to know!
But I might think that you might need a one with a Lucas/Peyton.Brooke triangle eppisode to explain why Brooke finds it hard to let guys in, if that is my only critisism!

LovinBrucas you are smart!! I didn’t even think of it that way! Haha, I still kept thinking okay we need to show things for the core 5 because we need to get this people caught up. Haha. But yeah, Alice makes a point you need one episode with a Lucas/Peyton/Brooke triangle. And for some reason,I still feel like we should have the Pilot. Otherwise, great list.

While I understand the point of preparing them for season 7 and doing a list that just helps people for that purpose, the essential OTH episodes aren’t just those that relate to or set-up season 7. If you just do it that way (no offense to LovinBrucas), you leave out a lot of essential OTH eps. So maybe it should be 2 lists then: essential OTH (i.e. key episodes of the show’s history and season 7 primer (everything you need to know to be ready for season 7).

def pilot. school shooting. naley’s second wedding. high school graduation. last episode in season four. 5.01. and probs some in season 2 with the whole lucas/dan/ledger situation. 6.02. lucas and peyton’s wedding. last episode in season 6.

Who’s the troll? LovinBrucas? No she’s not! She just put episodes that are going to get people caught up to watching Season 7 and since Leyton isn’t apart of season 7 she felt no need to put any episodes that were relevant to them. And she makes a point so get over it. : )

Using that same logic Haley and Brooke cannot be in the list since they were not in the original unaired pilot called “Ravens”.

Actually, that logic doesnt make sense because the unaired pilot doesnt have anything to do with season 7 either. The point of the 12 epis is to get new followers up to speed. So why include Leyton if they dont have anything to do with season 7. Everyone knows and is aware that Leyton was a HUGE part of OTH the past six seasons (most of it revolved around them!), but unfortunately they are not in season 7 and thus not needed storylines for new OTH fans.

i like everyone’s lists for the most part so i’m not gonna repeat any of the obvious ones…but i like every night is another story…i think its season 1 episode 6. it shows all the adults and their issues and lucas/nathan starting to get along finally and haley/peyton/brooke becoming friends. and at the end its like the first time you see the five of them together. plus brooke is hilarious the entire episode. haha

I agree that it should be focused mainly on the characters that will be in Season 7, and obviously the shooting has to be in there for people to understand the hate towards Dan, I think that the LP/BL story should be there somewhere but only to explain Brooke insecuritys in the Brulian relationship altho im hoping that there wont be anymore issues with this, just want Brulian to be happy!
Also they need to put mostly Nayley as they have been through so many issues with trust and other people, also they need to cover the Victoria/Brooke as people need to understand their relationship before Victoria turned nice!
I think that is it, but wanted to add that people need to stop with the Leyton all the time, there are many of us one here really looking forward to Season 7 and that should be the focus on here. It stated at the top that they wanted NEW fans for the show, and altho some Leyton info is need it seems silly to suggest episodes about their storyline and then bash others who are actually suggesting relevant storylines! If it was your favourite episodes full stop then fine but that wasnt the topic.

I think when Naley decides to get married the first time, and the episode where Brooke slaps Peyton. Also in season 5 where Rachel overdosed on drugs and they went to lucas wedding shower when he was with lindsey.

I was just thinking about the pilot and everything that is about to happen in season 7 and I realized just how irrelevant the first episode is. No Naley interaction, Brooke isn’t introduced yet, and most importantly no Lucas or Peyton. It’s definitly not the same show anymore, it has changed so much. I hope it is still good though.
