Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols share a laugh together after grabbing dinner at Madeo in Hollywood on Tuesday (Sept 1).
Sophia, 27, and Austin, 29, seem to have rekindled their romance after dating for awhile in 2006.
The One Tree Hill couple were last spotted having frozen yogurt together in SoHo a few weeks ago.
Meanwhile, their on-screen romance as Brooke and Julian remains strong as the new season of One Tree Hill kicks off on September 14.

I don’t understand how going to dinner together equates to “rekindled their romance.”
Local Wilmington reports aside (which I still have trouble accepting), long-time friends–or even new friends–hanging out together doesn’t mean it’s a romantic relationship.
Does JustJared (and these other trashy sites) know what the word platonic means?

Ok, it’s pretty obvious something is going on now. They’re either together, as a couple, or it’s some sort of publicity stunt to promote the new season. they’re not just hanging out.

Erin–They’ve actually been friends for years (pre-OTH) so “just hanging out” is completely plausible. I mean, you wouldn’t say Jen Aniston and Courtney Cox must have something going on because they are often photographed together. Just bc they’re of the opposite sex, it doesn’t have to mean there’s something more. Maybe there is, maybe there isn’t. I’d like confirmation from *them.*

Who knows, Just Jared had Sophia dating James earlier this year and her getting back with Jon in June. It’s confusing.

I’m aware they’ve known each other for years, but spending this much time together off set is suspicious. And I doubt they’d be holding hands if they were just friends. I don’t care either way, but something is going on.

Why is it so hard to accept that they are in a relationship! They are together everywhere from NY to LA. Stop trying to convince yourselves that they are “Just friends.” They’re even wearing matching colors. I am starting to think that her and James relationship was blown out of proportions and Chad was just responding to rumors, because we have never seen any pictures of James and Sophia other than airport travel or on the set. I think if they are dating, it appears to be a more mature relationship where they don’t feel the need to hide it from their fans and be proud of the relationship. That is what always bothered me about Jophia, stand up for yourself and don’t hide if you don’t think anything is wrong. Obviously James couldn’t handle all the paparazzi, but at least Austin and Sophia don’t feel the need to hide, much more mature and honest relationship. I really hope it works out.

Erin–how is it suspicious to spend a lot of time off-set with someone who happens to be a close friend of yours for years? That just sounds like a typical friendship to me.
Weenie–It’s not hard to accept, and I’m not trying t convince myself of anything. Just as a journalist, I like having hard proof: on the record confirmation from either one of them or someone close to them. I can’t stand speculation.
I think all the scenarios mentioned above are possible. My point is we just don’t which one is actually the case.

TeenDramaWhore: Why should they make a press conference confirming it! It is not like any journalist has asked them, not as far as I know and sometimes a picture is worth thousand words. It is obvious with the most recent flux of pictures of them that they are more than just friends. And if they are just friends, like some like to believe and she is still dating James, eww then where is he in all of this, still trying to hide from the paparazzi. That is real big of him to allow his “girlfriend” to hang out so often with her “good friend.” I think it is legit and I am honest in saying, (because I am really not a fan of hers in case you haven’t noticed), it really works out for them. At least she can be open about it.

Weenie–You’re clearly not understanding me. I never said they had to confirm it, press conference or otherwise. My point simply was that, as a journalist, I rely on confirmation from the source. No confirmation is completely fine; it just means that I won’t run with it. Instead, I take pics and rumors with a grain of salt.

TeenDramaWhore: I understand what you are saying and normally I tend to feel the same way, but them being together does appear very obvious. I had my doubts about James and Sophia all along for the same reason you do. Even when Chad outed them, I always felt that he was responding to the rumors and he was being spiteful. But this seems like a more open and honest relationship and that eventually, when asked, they will confirm it.

Weenie–Thanks for clarifying. I just think appearances can be deceiving, and what may seem “obvious” in a photo doesn’t always match the reality of the situation. So maybe eventually they will confirm it, like you said. In the meantime, I’ll be waiting for that day.

I think there’s nothing more than friends and a publicity stunt with these two. Didn’t she once say that she’ll never be so public about a relationship ever again (after Chad)? Which is why she was so hush about James, and we pretty much know THEY were together thanks to Chad’s interview. I doubt she and Austin are together and flaunting it all across the country; like I said, they’re good friends who might be pimping their on-screen relationship.

Jill–I don’t know how old you are, but people do take friends as their dates to weddings. And to my knowledge, the Wilmington “reports” are just sightings of them together, perhaps acting flirtatious. Not a big deal, and certainly not from-the-horse’s-mouth confirmation.

Weenie–I don’t know if it’s all PR, but to answer your question, different actors are willing to do different things. The Brulian relationship is “hot” right now and still pretty new. A lot of young fan girls like to think the the on-screen ’ships are real, and publicity like this gets them squealing. Hard to do if one of the stars is married and/or not willing.

Weenie – because James and Joy don’t need to “pimp out” Naley…they already have such a huge and loyal fan base. Unlike Brulian, who are pretty much another main couple in Tree Hill since Leyton. Besides, doesn’t Joy spend every second of her free time flying back to be with her husband? I doubt a married woman like her would stick around and do PR stunts with James just for the hell of it.

There was an article I read in people magazine that said they were dating, but thats just tabloids… but they were just pictured together at one of her best friends weddings.

Mackenzie–People is NOT a tabloid! I interned there full-time for 3 months and can assure you, in terms of writing, reporting, accuracy and ethics, it is FAR ABOVE tabloid level. In fact, that’s one of the few sources I will believe without direct quotes from them. As someone who fact-checked pieces like that for the magazine, I would not doubt them.

So from what I gather after reading all the post, that most of you honestly feel that hanging out all the time, going to parties and events, having dinner together in NY and LA is all a PR ploy and in the process they are keeping it totally platonic while they are so called promoting OTH. HA! I just had the best laugh of the day!!!!! So in other words that it is part of her job description to pretend to date all the co-stars and become the welcome wagon lady to get publicity for the show. I would never stand for that, to be used as bait to get attention for a show and I highly doubt Sophia would either. Hooking her up with all the co-stars and make some think she is a slut for the sake of the show. I think everyones PR theory is a crock.

It’s been known in Wilmington for quite a while that Austin and Sophia were back together. PR ploy? No, it’s not.
As for why we don’t see James and Joy getting spotted so much for publicity, there are a few reasons for that:
1.) They don’t need to. The Nathan and Haley fanbase is large enough, strong enough, and solid enough that they don’t really need the extra publicity.
2.) James and Joy have always been very close friends, since the beginning of the show. But, they make a conscious effort to not hang out together too much off set (although they would like to), because they don’t want to perpetuate rumors (since she’s married), and they don’t want to draw attention to themselves.
3.) Joy flies back and forth to see her husband, but it’s not every waking moment. I understand that’s a metaphor, and I wasn’t taking it literally. I just mean that while she does try to see him when she can, she’s not flying back and forth as much as she lets on.
