In case you ever need a weekly “The Notebook” fix it seems that Austin Nichols is proposing that you watch “One Tree Hill.” The man who plays Julian thinks that his onscreen romance with Sophia Bush’s Brooke Davis is very, very similar to the one that won our hearts in the Nicholas Sparks tearjerker.

“When Mark [Schwahn, the show’s creator] asked me to come back as a series regular I told him I only would if we could make a really powerful love story for Brooke and Julian,” he told examiner.com. “I wanted him to give them the greatest love story. I mentioned ‘The Notebook’ to him. I wanted him to give them that kind of love and story, a fountainhead love. And in ‘The Notebook’ even when they fight, it’s how it is now for Brooke and Julian, it’s fun to watch them fight. It’s sexy. It’s inspiring.”

2009 has been quite a year for Austin Nichols. He became a series regular on the popular long-time drama ‘One Tree Hill’, began work on a new film, and even developed some additional career aspirations for himself outside of the entertainment industry. He discussed that and much more with me including what he would like to see happen with his role of Julian on ‘One Tree Hill’.

Q-How has filming been for you lately?

A-Fun, it’s been busy. I’m shooting a movie as well right now so I’ve been in between LA and Wilmington a lot. The movie is called ‘Beautiful Boy’, it’s with Michael Sheen. It’s just an incredible piece of writing about a husband and wife who find out their son was involved in a campus shooting. I play a writer who writes about the tragedy. I’m really happy about it.

Q-This is your first full season on ‘One Tree Hill’, how has that been like for you?

A-It’s great. It’s exciting. It’s different from being a guest. You feel more responsible for the show as a whole, for the final in product, as a regular. But it’s been fun. As far as I can tell, this season there has been really great material and better than any season before it so it’s been really cool.

Q-Had you ever seen the show before joining it?

A-No I hadn’t. I really didn’t watch that much television and I think the show had a certain audience, younger. But I think the audience is actually growing now. The show is kind of older and more mature and not just limited to a young audience anymore. My parents and all my friends now are watching the show and they are in love with it, and telling all their friends to watch it. So that’s been cool. It’s been cool to see that sort of a reaction to a show that’s been on for that long. And to see that kind of an audience grow and branch out. And people love to see stuff they can relate to. There’s heart in it. It’s real stuff.

Sophia Bush stops by The Bonnie Hunt Show on Tuesday (October 13) and shares that she’s honored that she was be asked to join the organization Teachers Count because her teachers were so influential in who she has become.

The 27-year-old One Tree Hill actress said, “I think particularly with young people in the entertainment industry, the focus has gotten inappropriate. When people can have careers which consist of nothing but going to parties…and they get paid to go to parties because they’ve been less than clothed…it’s not something I can believe in. The ‘I”ll do anything to be famous’ standard doesn’t last.”

As for what she finds sexy, Sophia said, “I think smart is sexy because that’s all that lasts.”

We bet Austin Nichols is a very smart man, then! (They were spotted holding hands at Sunday’s Hollywood Style Awards.)

Looks like life is imitating art for One Tree Hill costars Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols!

The onscreen couple looked like a real-life twosome as they stepped out at the Hollywood Style Awards last night.

Sophia, who was presenting an award to Max Azria, hit the carpet solo, but she stayed close to Austin inside and was overheard mentioning her “boyfriend” to partygoers.

Austin, who wasn’t presenting or receiving an award, played it coy when asked about his status as her plus-one…

“To be honest, I’m here to drink the free tequila and come to the Hammer Museum because I’m an art lover,” he explained of why he happened to be at the event. “I’m just here to enjoy the party!”

When asked specifically if he was Sophia’s date for the night (which he was so obviously was), he wouldn’t confirm or deny the hookup.

“I’m not gonna say anything except that…I’m here to drink. We were talking before, we have a bunch of friends together, we work together,” he said.

On a purely platonic level, Austin was also seen talking to Zachary Quinto, who was on hand to present an award to Hayden Panettiere.

TeenDramaWhore: What was your reaction when you found out you were being promoted to a series regular?

Austin Nichols: Fear. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t want to do it. The thing about a television series is that you have to have faith that the material is going to be good. Because all you know is episode 1. You have no idea what episode 2-22 will contain. But after many conversations with my captain Mark Schwahn, I felt better about signing up.

TDW: Why do you think the audience has taken such a liking to Brooke and Julian?

Nichols: Because when we look at each other, volcanoes erupt, the earth quakes, and glitter falls from the sky.

TDW: I know I was particularly touched by Julian’s closeness with Sam (Ashley Rickards). Do you want to see him and Brooke have a family?

Nichols: Children!!! Absolutely. I want a litter. A whole team of little Brookes and Julians. Twins. Black ones. White ones. Brown and yellow too. Remember the show, JUST THE TEN OF US? We are going to remake that show with Brooke and Julian and their 8 kids.

I spoke to Austin about the new season of One Tree Hill, and he revealed some spoilers about what Julian is up to and which character from his past will return, what (or who) will cause some trouble for Brooke and Julian’s relationship, and when we’ll get to see Julian hanging out with Jamie.

-Brooke and Julian found themselves in a very good and happy place on the season 7 premiere, but Nichols says it won’t stay that way for long. “I’d love to kiss a pretty girl on the beach all the time, but it’s definitely gonna get messy.”

-Who will be the person throwing “a wrench into the gears” of the Brulian romance? Fans will get a chance to find out this week, as Nichols teased Monday’s episode by saying the new girl, actress and Clothes Over Bros model Alex Dupre will get in Julian’s face and definitely cause some trouble for Brooke.

Sophia Bush and Austin Nichols share a laugh together after grabbing dinner at Madeo in Hollywood on Tuesday (Sept 1).

Sophia, 27, and Austin, 29, seem to have rekindled their romance after dating for awhile in 2006.

The One Tree Hill couple were last spotted having frozen yogurt together in SoHo a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, their on-screen romance as Brooke and Julian remains strong as the new season of One Tree Hill kicks off on September 14.

It’s definitely on again for One Tree Hill costars and off screen lovers Sophia Bush, 27 and Austin Nichols, 29.

The couple, who started dating in 2006 and split earlier this year, have rekindled their romance recently and taken it to the East Coast.

They were spotted last week sharing a cold nutritious dessert together at Soho’s Pop Yogurt and dined at Georgica Restaurant and Lounge in East Hampton on Friday. An eyewitness tells RadarOnline.com they were very much a couple.

“Sophia and Austin were with their three friends but they may as well have been on their own. They were very affectionate with each other. They were cuddled close together all night, sneaking kisses and acting very loving.

“There was lots of hand holding and Austin spent much of the night rubbing Sophia’s thigh. There’s no doubting they are together romantically, they look crazy in love and they make a really cute couple!

“They must of really liked the restaurant because they came back the next night, just the two of them.”
