Episode 5.16 - Crying Won’t Help You Now [Airing May 5]: Mouth gets a chance to become a sports anchor. Millicent is at the TV station with him and gives him tips and tricks so he can do a good job. Brooke must bring baby Angie with her at a meeting with Macy’s executives. Quentin apologizes to Skills for having said nasty things to him. IS DAN SCOTT REALLY DYING? — Lucas (Chad Michael Murray) investigates Dan’s (Paul Johansson) heart condition while Haley (Bethany Joy Galeotti) struggles with letting Dan into Jamie’s (guest star Jackson Brundage) life. Nathan (James Lafferty) urges Quentin (guest star Robbie Jones) to reinvent his game and Brooke (Sophia Bush) juggles her career with life as a new mother. Peyton (Hilarie Burton) tries to assuage her guilt over Lucas’ breakup, and Mouth (Lee Norris) gets a shot to be sports anchor. Antwon Tanner also stars. Lucas investigates the supposed progression of Dan’s heart condition as Haley deals with letting Dan develop a relationship with Jamie. Meanwhile, Mouth gets a chance to be a sports anchor; and Nathan gives Quentin advice about getting his game back.

General Spoilers:

  • Dan claims that he’s dying and asks Nathan to help him with one last favor before he goes. Brooke discovers that baby Angie has a hole in her heart that requires a dangerous procedure. Mouth has trouble with his on-air broadcast, while Quentin inspires Nathan to play basketball again.
  • Dan says he is dying, and has one last wish involving Nathan.
  • Quentin encourages Nathan to play basketball again.

Side Summaries:

Sides - Dr. Copeland Brooke and Lucas are at Dr. Copeland’s office. He comes in and introduces himself. The doctor says he wants to go over Angie’s procedure again. He asks if she’s familiar with it and Brooke says no, she has a hole in her heart right? He says yes and then explains the procedure. Brooke asks if there’s another way to do it because it seems dangerous. The dr says no if she doesn’t have it she only has a year or two left. Dr. Copeland says try not to be nervous, it’s a great thing Brooke is doing for Angie and he’ll see them the next week.

Scene 22: Mouth is on camera and having trouble. He’s looking at the wrong camera and says North Carolina Blue Devils instead of Tarheel. The Assistant Director is frustrated and trying to tell him what to do. He fumbles with his papers and spills his water. They say their clear and the crew is stunned at Mouth.

Scene 23 is marked out but it is Brooke and Millicent at home and realize how bad Mouth did. Brooke suggests taking Millicent to the station to be with Mouth.

Scene 24: Lucas’ Office. Skills, Lucas, Nathan and Jamie are in the office. The mood is quiet and somber.

Scene 27: Dan asks Nathan not to deny him his dying wish. Nathan is conflicted about what Dan has said.

Scene 28: The Assistant Director goes up to Mouth and tells him Sports is next. Mouth is still shocked. Millicent comes up and says he’ll be fine. She whispers and says he’s her underdog and he’ll be fine. He gets back in front of the camera and successfully gives news about the Bobcats.

Scene 35: Quentin says that Nathan saw something in him before he saw anything in himself. Now maybe Quentin can return the gesture. How about they practice together for a couple of hours every day? Nathan smiles, but tells Quentin not to call it a comeback. Quentin smiles back, and replies “Whatever you say, baller.”

Scene 36: In the dark station, the Assistant Director tells Mouth it was quite a comeback, they didn’t think he would make it. He leaves Mouth and Millicent alone and Mouth breathes a sigh of relief.

Scene 29: Brooke walks into a conference room with Angie and is disheveled and is late. A female executive asks if she’s prepared and if they should reschedule. Brooke says No I’m good and Angie starts to cry. Brooke holds up her finger and says Can you give me just a second? Brooke then walks out with Angie.
