Season 5 Episode 8 Please, Please, Please let me get what I want
Scene 1: Peyton’s office.
(Peyton and Lucas are kissing. They pull away slightly and Peyton smiles a little.)
Peyton: You still love me don’t you?
(Lucas is silent for a moment.)
Lucas: I have to go see Lindsey.
(They share a look before he walks away.)
Scene 2: Lucas’ house.
(Lindsey is sitting on the bed, a suitcase is packed beside her and Lucas walks in.)
Lucas: Lindsey?
Lindsey: I’m going to go to
Lucas: Don’t do this. I know you’re upset, I know…
(He brushes her hair away from her face.)
Lucas: but you need to believe me when I tell you, you’re the girl I love.
(She holds up a ring.)
Lindsey: Then how come you never gave me this?
(Lucas stares at the ring then shifts his glance to Lindsey. She stands up.)
Lindsey: I got home and figured I’d do some menial chore to get my mind off of how angry I was. Laundry was the first thing that came to mind.
(Lucas closes his eyes, sighs and runs his hand across his face.)
Lindsey: Who hides a ring in a sock drawer, Luke?
Lucas: Lindsey, that ring…
(She cuts him off.)
Lindsey: Don’t. I’m just gonna go.
(She walks over to her suitcase but then stops and holds up the ring and looks at it.)
Lindsey: For the record, it’s as beautiful as I imagined it would be.
(She hands it to him.)
Lindsey: Take it.
(She grabs her bag and goes to the door but his voice stops her.)
Lucas: I was waiting to give you the ring until I was sure I had another book in me. I just don’t want you to end up regretting me because I can’t finish…
(She turns around to face him.)
Lindsey: I would never regret you.
Lindsey: Yeah, you say that now. But what if I’m not Lucas the writer? What if I’m Lucas the small town basketball coach? What if that’s all I’m ever gonna be?
(She puts her bag down on the floor and walks towards him.)
Lindsey: Then I’d be the small town basketball coach’s wife.
(He turns his face away from her.)
Lindsey: Look at me Lucas.
(He looks at her.)
Lindsey: I don’t love you for your book. I love you for the mind that book sprang from. And I don’t care if you never write another word again.
(She puts her hands on either side of his face.)
Lindsey: You will always be more than a small town basketball coach. Because you’ll be the man that I love.
(She kisses his cheek and turns to go but he holds her hand. She turns to face him.)
Lucas: Lindsey…
(He gets down on one knee.)
Lucas: Evelyn Strauss, will you marry me?
(She lets out a breath and sniffles. He puts the ring on her finger and she lets out another surprised breath and holds her hand up admiringly. He smiles at her and she smiles back. Then she jumps into his arms. They laugh and hug and he kisses her cheek.)
Scene 3: Outside Lucas’ door.
(Peyton walks up and pauses before finally knocking on the door. Lindsey opens it.)
Peyton: Lindsey, I’m… I’m sorry. I never wanted…
(Lindsey interrupts her and holds up her hand showing the ring.)
Lindsey: Lucas asked me to marry him.
(Peyton looks at her surprised then shifts her gaze to Lucas. They share a long glance until he finally looks away from her.)
Scene 4: Nathan & Haley’s house.
(Nathan and Haley are lying in bed. Haley wipes away a tear and sniffles.)
Haley: Are you awake?
(Nathan takes a deep breath.)
Nathan: No.
(They let out a small laugh then Haley turns to face him.)
Haley: Sorry I got upset with you.
Nathan: You were right to be upset. I finally started walking again. I have no business being in some guys face.
Haley: Lucas kissed Peyton.
Nathan: What? When?
(He sits up a little.)
Haley: Before we left Tric, in Peyton’s office. I walked in and I saw the whole thing, or enough of it. I don’t understand how Lucas can do this to Lindsey after everything they’ve been through. And Peyton, who… who does she think she is? She turned down Lucas’ proposal, she broke his heart. She has no right to take him from Lindsey.
Nathan: Maybe it wasn’t what it looked like. Maybe it was just a friendly kiss or maybe it was a goodbye kiss. Or maybe it was just a mistake.
Haley: No, I… I… I know what I saw. This was a full on, romantic, Lucas, Peyton kiss.
Nathan: Then you should forget what you saw.
Haley: Oh really? Forget it?
(Nathan nods.)
Haley: No, what I need to do is tell Lindsey.
Nathan: No, see that’s not your place. Regardless of what it looked like, I mean… Look, if Lucas is cheating on Lindsey, he needs to be man enough to tell her himself.
Scene 5: Tric
(Brooke is drinking.)
Brooke: You know, of all the guys I dated in
Owen: Flatter me all you want, but you’re still cut off.
Brooke: Listen pal, my name is technically a brand, so I could sue you for naming that shot after me.
Owen: First of all, you named the shot after yourself. Second of all, that shot was named the Patricia Foster last week, the Liz Thompson the week before, chances are it’ll have a new name tomorrow night so if wanna sue me, you better do it fast.
Brooke: Well, if my name’s only gonna be on it for the night, maybe there’s something else I should do real fast.
(He holds up an empty shot glass.)
Owen: I think you are way too full of yourself to make that decision.
(Brooke’s phone goes off.)
Brooke: I…
(She hears the phone and answers it.)
Brooke: Hi P. Sawyer. Please tell me those are tears of joy. Okay, no, I’m coming home right now.
(She hangs up her phone and goes to leave.)
Owen: Oh, not so fast headline waiting to happen. I’ll drop you off.
Brooke: You do like me.
Owen: No, you driving junk is something I actually can get sued for.
(He takes her keys and she smiles.)
Scene 6: Mouth’s Room.
(Mouth paces for a moment, holding the napkin with Millie’s number written on it. He grabs his phone off the desk and dials her number. The phone rings then her answering machine comes on.)
Millie (Answering machine recording.): It’s Millicent, leave a message.
Mouth: Hi, um. Millicent… it’s, it’s Mouth. Marvin. Mouth. Um. I just wanted you to know that I had a really nice time with you tonight and I’m sorry if it ended weird. Or if you felt bad. Not that you should feel bad. I should feel bad. I… I do feel bad… So… call me. Marvin. Mouth… I mean you should call me and my name is Marvin or Mouth not that you should call me Marvin. I just wa…
(The machine beeps. Mouth sighs and shuts his phone off.)
Scene 7: Brooke & Peyton’s house.
(Peyton is lying on the couch with a copy of Lucas’ book. Brooke walks in.)
Brooke: Tell me you are not lying here torturing yourself with a copy of Lucas’ book.
Peyton (quoting the book.): In that moment my triumph was not a State Championship but a moment of clarity.
(Brooke wipes away a tear from Peyton’s cheek.)
Brooke: I read it honey, I know how it ends.
Peyton: That’s funny. Because it seems like Lucas’ has forgotten. Oh Brooke, he asked Lindsey to marry him…
(She breaks down in tears.)
Brooke: What? That’s crazy.
Peyton: Maybe. Or maybe crazy is me thinking that he could still have feelings for me after all these years.
Brooke: We both know that Lucas has a history of throwing himself into the wrong relationships… especially when he can’t admit the truth about who he loves.
(Peyton shakes her head.)
Peyton: No. It’s different this time.
(Brooke nods slowly.)
Brooke: Okay…
Peyton: What am I supposed to do?
(Brooke rubs Peyton’s arm then looks at the fire then back at Peyton.)
Brooke: Come here.
(They walk over to the fire.)
Brooke: First, you’re going to let go.
(She hands Peyton the book and nods. Peyton takes it and puts it in the fireplace.)
Brooke: Now we’re going to sit, and you are going to cry on my shoulder for as long as you need to. Okay?
(They sit and Brooke pulls her in close.)
Lucas (voiceover): Suddenly, it was as if the roar of the crowd, the echo of the final buzzer, the cheers of my teammates were all sounding from a thousand miles away.
Scene 8: Lucas’ house.
(Lucas and Lindsey are lying in bed. She’s sleeping and he strokes her hair gently, while remembering the championships.)
Lucas (voiceover): and what remained in that bizarre, muffled silence was only Peyton. The girl whose art and passion and beauty had changed my life.
Scene 9: Flashback to the championships.
Lucas (Voiceover): In that moment, my triumph was not a state championship but simple clarity. The realization that we had always been meant for each other and every instinct to the contrary had simply been denial of the following truth:
Scene 10: Brooke & Peyton’s house.
(Brooke holds Peyton and they watch the book burn.)
Lucas (Voiceover): I was now, and would always be, in love with Peyton Sawyer.
Scene 11: Clothes over Bros
(Brooke walks to the counter with a cup of coffee. Haley & Jamie enter seconds later.)
Haley: Hi, I’m really sorry we’re late… Hey, no T.V. for you and no ice cream til the afternoon and keep it to one scoop okay?
(Jamie nods.)
Brooke: One… okay…
Haley: You forgot.
Brooke: It’s fine.
Haley: Okay!
Brooke: You look so handsome!
Haley: Okay, um. You’re dad’s gonna pick you up after practice okay?
(She rubs his nose with hers.)
Haley: Bye! Thank you!
Brooke: Bye!
(Haley goes to leave but Lindsey comes in the store.)
Lindsey: Haley!
Haley: Hi!
Lindsey: I’m so glad you’re here.
Haley: Oh, I gotta go. Actually… is everything okay?
Lindsey: Oh, everything’s great. I mean as long as this town is big enough for two Mrs. Scott’s.
(She holds out her hand.)
Brooke & Haley: Oh, my god. Uh… congratulations!
Scene 11: Nathan & Haley’s Kitchen.
(Nathan walks in to Carrie looking hung over and pouring coffee.)
Nathan: Hang over?
Carrie: More like teetering on the edge of death.
(She pours him a cup and pushes across the counter.)
Nathan: Don’t you need that?
Carrie: I’ll brew more. Listen, I don’t remember much of last night, but I have a feeling that I was less than professional.
Nathan: That was probably my fault for not cutting you off. Hey on the bright side, at least your drunken mistake didn’t ruin your basketball career.
Carrie: Did it ruin my nanny career?
Nathan: You gotta stop the flirting, Carrie. And the skinny dipping and…
Carrie: I think that the severity of this hang over pretty much guarantees that it’ll never happen again.
Nathan: I hope that’s true. Drink plenty of water.
(He walks out of the room and she sips her coffee.)
Scene 12: Mouth’s work.
(Mouth is putting his belongings in a box.)
Worker: Hey Mouth, did… what are you doing?
Mouth: Uh, well the thing is…
Worker: Did you hear about
Mouth: What? When?
Worker: First thing this morning. She’s already gone. How great is that?
Mouth: Uh, that is greater than you know.
(He starts unpacking the box.)
Mouth: So what happened? Do you think they found out how abusive she was?
Worker: Not exactly. Apparently she was sleeping with an employee. They’re totally like cleaning house.
(He laughs and walks out and Mouth starts boxing his things again.)
Scene 13: Luke’s office.
(Skills and Nathan are watching a tape of the game. Lucas walks in.)
Skills: Man, we ain’t never gonna beat LaSalle if you’re gonna be late.
Nathan: Actually, we’re never gonna beat LaSalle even if you’re on time.
Lucas: Well maybe I shoulda spent last night planning a strategy to win instead of getting engaged, huh?
Skills: Definitely. Wait hold on, did you just say engaged?
(He jumps up from his seat and Nathan does as well.)
Nathan: Congratulations, big brother. That’s awesome.
Skills: No doubt, baby, way to go. So, who’s the lucky girl?
Lucas: You’re kidding right?
Nathan: No, that’s a legit question. Ya know, we figure with Peyton back in town it could be anybody’s ball game.
Skills: It could even be Brooke by now right?
Lucas: Stop. It’s Lindsey.
Skills: Excellent choice.
Nathan: Looks like things might work out for you after all.
(A knock on the door catches their attention and they turn to see an injured Quentin holding up his hand. Skills frowns.)
Skills: Maybe not.
Scene 14: Locker room.
(A Physical trainer is looking at Quentin’s hand.)
Nathan: You see what I’m talking about? You can’t just hit people.
Q: All I know is that Ms. James Scott needs someone to defend her honor and her own husband wasn’t man enough to do it.
Nathan: Man, let me tell you something. My wife’s honor is not something that can be taken away by some loud mouth jack ass in a bar. What can be taken away is your ability to play.
Trainer: It looks like it’s just a sprain. Could be a few days, could be a month.
Nathan: That’s just great. That’s a hell of a punch Q. You might have taken out a whole team with it.
(Nathan leaves.)
Scene 15: Lucas’ Office.
(Lucas is sitting at his desk and Peyton comes up to the open door.)
Lucas: Hi.
Peyton: If you wanted to break my heart, there are a thousand ways you could do it. You did not have to propose to Lindsey to hurt me.
Lucas: It didn’t have anything to do with you it was just… weird timing.
Peyton: Weird timing… Okay Luke…
(She walks in closer and sets her coat on the desk.)
Lucas: I know that it must seem like…
(He stands up and Peyton interrupts his sentence.)
Peyton: No! Don’t marry her Luke!
(She starts to cry and walks closer to him.)
Lucas: Peyton you can’t…
Peyton: Luke, am I crazy? Do you not feel what I have felt everyday that we’ve been apart for the last three years because I have felt that there was this vital piece of me that’s been missing. And I tried to fill it Luke, I tried to fill it with work, and friends and music. And it stayed empty until last night when you kissed me and my entire universe snapped back into focus.
(He keeps looking away from her. She grabs his face and turns it towards her but he continues to look away.)
Peyton: Lucas, look me in the eye and tell me that that kiss did not feel exactly the same as it felt three years ago.
(Lucas looks in her eyes.)
Lucas: I’m in love with her Peyton.
(Haley walks in and Peyton wipes her face.)
Haley: What is going on here?
Peyton: Just, congratulating Luke. Did you hear he’s engaged?
Haley: Yeah, I’m gonna be her matron of honor. Luke, I uh… I need to talk to you, alone.
(He nods and Peyton leaves the office.)
Haley: Were you gonna tell me?
Lucas: Is this a trick question?
Haley: Luke, marriage is a huge commitment. Can you honestly tell me that you’re positive that Lindsey’s the one?
Lucas: Okay, I know where this is going. To tell you the truth, Lindsey will always be my number two, but only because you are my number one. And you always will be, just don’t tell Lindsey or Nathan.
Haley: Lucas, marriage is serious and you better be ready to commit to Lindsey for the rest of your life.
(She walks away.)
Lucas: Does that mean you’re happy for me?
Scene 16: Clothes over Bros.
(Jamie & Brooke are watching a soap opera on television.)
Jamie: Momma said no T.V.
Brooke: Shh… What Momma doesn’t know won’t hurt her.
(Owen walks in.)
Brooke: Let me know if
Jamie: You know he’s going to.
(She gets up and walks over to Owen who is standing at a rack of clothes.)
Brooke: Can I help you?
Owen: I need a great gift for this girl I know.
Brooke: Well you’ve definitely come to the right place. What’s this girl look like?
Owen: Dark hair, hazel eyes.
Brooke: If she didn’t already own it, I bet she’d like this one.
(She holds up a purple dress.)
Owen: Yeah, but she’s a little taller than you so uh, you have any other sizes?
Millicent: Brooke, its
Brooke: One sec.
(She hangs up the dress and walks towards Millicent.)
Millicent: Apparently furs are about to make an unprecedented comeback.
Brooke: Really? Jamie, cover your ears.
(She takes the phone.)
Brooke: Hi. Let’s make this short and sweet. There is no situation in which I am going to kill furry little woodland creatures to make coats out of them, Kay? Thanks.
(She hands Millicent the phone and walks back to Owen.)
Owen: Let me guess. Bar hag still calling the shots?
Brooke: Aren’t you supposed to be shopping for some fugly giantess?
Owen: I’m just saying, why do you work with her if she makes you that crazy?
Brooke: Well, first of all, the ‘bar hag’ as you call her, is my mother, and second of all she’s my business partner. And if it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t have a bazillion dollar company, a magazine and all these lovely clothes you see here.
Owen: My mother wanted me to be an orthodontist, but I just said no.
Brooke: Judging from your car maybe you should have reconsidered.
Owen: Jab against my car? You’re that girl huh? That’s disappointing.
(He turns to leave then faces her again.)
Owen: What’s underneath all the clothes Brooke Davis?
(He leaves and she looks dumbfounded. She turns to Jamie then back to the door again.)
Scene 17:
(Peyton is leaving when Molly sees her.)
Molly: Hey, Peyton. It’s me Molly. I live in your old bedroom.
Peyton: Right. You kept my closet door. Hey. If I’d known other people would be reading everything I wrote on that thing I’d probably would have been more careful.
Molly: Oh, I’m glad you weren’t. I wanted to ask, did Lucas really carry you out of the library after you got shot?
Peyton: Um. Yeah.
Molly: That must have been so romantic.
Peyton: Well I was kinda preoccupied bleeding out on the library carpet so…
Molly: Ew. Now that I think about that…
Peyton: I don’t really remember writing that part down on my closet door.
(Molly takes Luke’s book from her backpack.)
Peyton: Oh, of course.
Molly: I’ve read it 13 times. Is that weird? I… it’s just that. When we moved into our new house and I read your closet door I knew it was special. But then I read this book. And I realized I was a part of this timeless love story. The truth is that sometimes I read that closet door and imagine that I have you’re life instead of mine.
Peyton: No. Molly I am not someone that you want to live vicariously through, okay. I’m a mess.
Molly: Lucas Scott didn’t think so. Besides, even if you are, no ones ever going to write about my life.
(Molly grabs her backpack, hugs Peyton and leaves.)
Scene 18: Mouth’s Work.
Manager Guy: It’s Marvin, right?
Mouth: Yes, sir.
Manager: I suppose you’ve heard we had to fire Alice Day for carrying on an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate? I suppose you know a little something about that?
Mouth: Yes, sir. I uh…
Manager: It’s okay son. Apparently half the station knew about Alice and Rick.
Mouth: Rick? Evening News anchorman Rick?
Manager: I know. Programming director sleeping with her anchor? Oh boy. Competitions gonna love that huh?
Mouth: I’m sorry, Rick. With the toupee Rick?
Manager: Hey listen Marvin; we’re in a bit of a scramble here. We’re gonna need all hands on deck. I watched you’re audition tape. It’s good. You know the Tree Hill Ravens have their season opener coming up. How’d you like to cover it?
Mouth: Yes, sir! Yes!
Manager: Good man.
Mouth: Thank you.
Manager: Uh, McFadden? Word of advice: There’s opportunity here for a kid who’ll work hard and keep his nose clean.
Mouth: Yes, sir.
(He leaves the office.)
Scene 19: Hallway, Mouth’s work.
Worker: What’d they say? Do they know about
Mouth: What about
Worker: He was given it to
Mouth: They said she was sleeping with Rick.
Worker: Really? Wait, Wait, Wait… Anchorman Rick with the toupee? EW.
Mouth: So she was sleeping with
Worker: Oh yeah. Hey Mouth, they didn’t say anything about me did they?
Mouth: No, why would they say… You were sleeping with her too?
Worker: Just a few mornings before work.
(Mouth turns and walks away.)
Worker: Rick, I mean, that’s just nasty.
Scene 20: Studio.
Peyton: You ready?
(Mia gives her thumbs up.)
Peyton: Kay, we’re rolling.
(Mia starts singing and Haley turns away from Peyton.)
Peyton: Haley did I do something to upset you?
Haley: You mean besides lying and cheating?
Peyton: Excuse me?
Haley: You told me you weren’t back for Lucas.
Peyton: I’m not.
Haley: There’s the lying.
Peyton: Haley.
Haley: You kissed him last night, I saw you. And that’s the cheating. And now I have to be the Matron of honor to a really sweet girl whose fiancé is hooking up with his old girlfriend behind her back. So yeah, I know we’re friends, but yeah, Peyton, you did something to upset me and that should upset you. Okay, listen. You said no Peyton and Lindsey said yes.
Peyton: I said, someday.
Haley: Well Lucas fell in love in the mean time. You gotta stop trying to take that away from him.
(Mia sings some more.)
Scene 21: Park.
Brooke: But that’s the thing. It’s not what he says, but the way he says it. He honestly acts like he is above me which is ridiculous. He’s a bartender; he mixes drinks for a living.
Jamie: Like chocolate milk?
Brooke: Not exactly.
Jamie: Are you going to kill furry woodland creatures?
Brooke: I most certainly am not going to kill little furry woodland creatures.
(He gets up and holds out his pinky.)
Jamie: Promise?
Brooke: Pinky Swear. And where was I? Oh! He should be so lucky. I am Brooke Davis.
Jamie: Brooke Penelope Davis.
Brooke: Exactly. Besides, what has he ever said to make me think that he’s even worth my time?
Jamie: What’s underneath all the clothes Brooke Davis?
Brooke: How old are you again?
(Jamie holds up four fingers.)
Brooke: Alright, One more scoop for the boy genius, but don’t tell your mom. Come on.
Scene 22: Clothes over Bros.
Millicent: This top is really cute. Big date?
Carrie: Oh, just something to impress a guy.
Millicent: Well I hope this does the trick. Fingers crossed.
(Mouth comes in.)
Mouth: Millicent, you never called me back so I thought I’d swing by.
Millicent: Actually, I didn’t call back on purpose.
Mouth: Oh, can I ask why?
Millicent: I don’t think we’re a good match. I mean you like sports and I like ballet so there’s that.
Mouth: That’s like the worst reason I’ve ever heard.
Millicent: Then how bout you like having sex with your boss and I like ballet? Brooke told me.
Mouth: Thank you Brooke Davis. Look, that’s completely over with as of last night.
Millicent: Well I’m glad to hear that Marvin, but that’s not really the point. I don’t want to date the kind of guy who would sleep with his boss to get ahead at his job. No matter how hot, or funny or smart he is otherwise.
Mouth: Millicent.
Millicent: I’m very sorry, Marvin. But, you’re just not the guy I’d hoped you’d be.
(She walks away and he stares off for a moment.)
Scene 23: Luke’s office.
(Mouth is interviewing Lucas.)
Mouth: I’m Marvin McFadden along by… I’m Marvin McFadden and with today is…
Lucas: You okay?
Mouth: I’m sorry. This is the biggest break of my life and I can’t stop thinking about this girl I met.
Lucas: Mhm?
Mouth: She thinks I’m morally bankrupt and the truth is I have been lately.
Lucas: Come on, Mouth. You’re the most stand up guy I know. Alright, look, if it’s true, turn it around.
Mouth: Thanks Lucas. Where were we?
Lucas: You were asking me how we intend on uh, avoiding getting our asses handed to us.
Mouth: I’m here with Coach Lucas Scott who story buzzer beater sealed a championship for the Tree Hill Ravens four years ago…
Scene 24: Cemetery.
(Peyton walks up to her mother’s grave.)
Peyton: Hi Mom. So is there any way that there’s like a cosmic loophole that could allow you to talk to me? Because I could really use one of those mother daughter talks that all the other girls are raving about. Well uh… Lucas has asked another girl to marry him. I know right, who’s he think he is? Asking some beautiful, brilliant, successful editor over the unemployed girl who said someday? What do I do now Mom? Where do I go from here?
(A heart shaped leaf falls and lands on Keith’s grave.)
Peyton: Thanks Mom.
Scene 25: Nathan & Haley’s House.
(Carrie is finishing up dinner and the phone rings. She answers.)
Carrie: Scott Residence.
Haley: Hey Carrie, it’s me. Listen um, I have been making some great progress with Mia and I was hoping to put in a few more hours but I wasn’t sure if Jamie and Nathan were waiting on me for dinner.
Carrie: Um, they’re not home right now, but I’ll handle dinner if they show up.
Haley: Really? That would be great, thank you. You’re a live saver.
Carrie: Just happy to help.
(She hangs up the phone.)
Carrie: Boys! Dinner’s ready!
Scene 26: Kitchen.
(Jamie is drawing and Nathan is sitting with him. Nathan takes a picture Jamie has just drawn.)
Nathan: Let me see that. Oh, that’s genius. It’s a work of art.
Jamie: A work of art. Look Momma! Uh… I mean Nanny Carrie.
(Nathan’s mouth hangs open in disbelief as Carrie walks away.)
Scene 27: Clothes over Bros.
(Mouth walks in.)
Mouth: Hi. I’ve been thinking about what you said earlier and I get it, I wouldn’t want to date you if you were sleeping with your boss either.
Millicent: Brooke?
Mouth: No, Victoria.
Millicent: Ew.
Mouth: I would totally date you if you were sleeping with Brooke.
(She rolls her eyes and turns to another rack.)
Mouth: Millicent wait, uh… I’m not that guy. At least that’s not the guy I’ve been in the past. Would you give me just once chance to prove that to you? Please? I promise it’s not a date.
Scene 28: Lucas’ Office.
(Lucas is looking at a tape of the game. Skills walks in.)
Skills: Go home. But first, we toast your engagement.
(He pulls out some liquor.)
Lucas: Oh, you know I’m nervous?
Skills: Oh, don’t be nervous. Them chumps at LaSalle ain’t even gonna know what hit em.
Lucas: Yeah, I’m not talking about the game.
Skills: I know, look, I was nervous my first time too. Just remember it’s a beautiful expression of love between a man and a woman.
(He laughs.)
Lucas: Very funny.
Skills: Luke, you’re a man. I’d be worried if you said you wasn’t nervous. So, here’s to my friend Lucas Scott who don’t need to be nervous because he always, without fail, follows his heart.
Lucas: Cheers.
(They take a drink and Lucas makes a face.)
Lucas: God.
(Their team on the tape makes a bad play and misses a basket.)
Lucas: Alright how bout just one more.
Skills: Yeah.
Scene 29: Mouth’s work.
Millicent: Where are we?
Mouth: I know it doesn’t look like much, but this is my favorite room in the world. With our satellite I can find almost any sporting event anywhere, anytime.
Millicent: That’s great, but why? I mean why sports?
Mouth: I guess when I watch a game it reminds me that we all have greatness inside of us. Ya know, on any given day an underdog can rise up. It gives me hope.
(He pulls up a ballet show on one of the monitors.)
Mouth: Here we go.
Millicent: What’s this?
Mouth: The
Millicent: I don’t understand.
Mouth: Well I was hoping you would tell me why you love ballet because I think you’re really great Millicent and I’d love to know more about you.
(She smiles then he smiles.)
Scene 30: Bathroom at Nathan & Haley’s house.
(Carrie is cleaning Jamie up.)
Jamie: I’m sorry I called you Momma.
Carrie: It’s okay. Wanna hear a secret?
(He nods and she picks him up off the counter and sets him on the floor.)
Carrie: Sometimes I pretend that you’re my kid.
(He smiles and she kisses his forehead.)
Scene 31: Molly’s House.
(Peyton puts a bag and a letter on the front porch then walks away.)
Scene 32: Lucas’ House.
(Lindsey is standing in front of a mirror with flowers smiling.)
Scene 33: Studio.
(Mia is singing and Haley smiles.)
Scene 34: Nathan & Haley’s House. Jamie’s Room.
(Nathan kisses Jamie and puts his drawing on the headboard of his bed, then turns off the light and goes into the hallway with Carrie.)
Carrie: You’re so good with him.
Nathan: No, he’s good with me.
(She laughs.)
Nathan: What? What’s so funny?
Carrie: Nothing. It… just… you’ve had paint on your face for the last two hours.
Nathan: Why didn’t you tell me? Where?
Carrie: Here…
(She puts her hands on either side of his face and slowly smoothes some paint away from his cheek.)
Carrie: Wait a minute, close your eyes, you actually managed to get paint on your eyelids.
Nathan: Okay.
(He closes his eyes.)
Carrie: Hold on, I’ll get it.
(She kisses him but he doesn’t kiss back.)
(She bites her lip.)
Jamie: Nanny Carrie!
(She goes to look after Jamie and he stares off for a moment.)
Scene 35: Gym.
(Lucas is standing alone and Peyton walks in.)
Peyton: Hey. Think maybe Whitey’ll let you out of practice early so we can catch a movie?
Lucas: What are you doing Peyton?
Peyton: Just pretending for a second that we’re still seventeen and nothing’s changed. Would you believe that I actually met a girl who lives vicariously through us? At least the us in the book?
Lucas: Sure I do. It’s a great story to be a part of but it also took place a long time ago.
Peyton: Yeah, I know. I didn’t come here to rehash the past. I was reminded today in a round about way that the most perfect act of love is sacrifice. It’s what Keith did for Karen… burying his feelings for her for all those years so he could be a good friend.
(She reaches for his hand and holds it.)
Peyton: I love you, Lucas. And I think I have since the first moment that we locked eyes. And it is going to suck but if what you want is for me to let go, then I’m going to do it. Be happy Luke. I want that with all my heart.
(She kisses his hand and walks away and he gulps.)
Scene 36: Molly’s Bedroom.
(Molly reads the letter and opens up the bag to reveal a paintbrush and some white paint.)
Peyton (v.o.): Dear Molly, this is going to sound a little strange but, I’d like you to paint over my old closet door. The thing is, there is never a time when you’ll be more honest, when you’re convictions will be stronger, or when you’re motives will be more pure than they are right now.
Scene 37: Mouth’s Work.
(Mouth & Millie are watching Ballet.)
Peyton (v.o.): Which means you should chase whatever excites you.
Millie: They have such perfect lines, and grace, and power.
Mouth: If I closed my eyes, you could totally be talking about sports right now.
Millie: Maybe you should try it.
Mouth: Ballet?
Millie: Closing your eyes.
(He closes his eyes and she kisses his cheek. He smiles.)
Peyton (v.o.): Be confident and take risks.
Scene 38: Outside Tric.
(Owen walks out to his car.)
Peyton (v.o.): And paint over my words so you can start writing your own.
(Owen gets in his car and looks in the mirror to find a naked Brooke Davis.)
Owen: I assume you’re not carjacking me.
Brooke: You said you wanted to know what was under the clothes.
Owen I was being existential.
(He adjusts the mirror to see her better.)
Brooke: I was being literal and serious.
(He turns around to look at her and she smiles.)
Owen: You make two fantastic points. I should be getting home.
Brooke: What? You’re turning down naked me? Nobody turns down naked me.
Owen: Relax. It was a joke. You win.
Brooke: Really?
Owen: Absolutely. Lets have sex Brooke Davis. Your place or mine?
Brooke: As if.
(She puts on her clothes.)
(She leans up towards him.)
Brooke: You haven’t earned that yet bartender boy.
(She kisses his cheek.)
Brooke: Sleep tight.
(She climbs out of the car.)
Peyton (v.o.): My story may have inspired you, but I’m sure you’re story will inspire the next girl to live in our room.
Owen: Good girl.
Scene 39: Nathan & Haley’s House.
(Nathan is standing in the kitchen and Haley walks in.)
Haley: Hi.
Nathan: Hey. You’re home late.
Haley: Sorry.
(They hug.)
Haley: Mia’s album is sounding awesome.
Nathan: Great. Just uh. I wish you were home more.
Haley: Thanks, me too. Ugh, it’s been a long day. I snapped at Lucas, basically called Peyton a whore. I feel pretty lousy about it.
Nathan: Are you going to tell Lindsey about the kiss?
Haley: I don’t know. I’m starting to think that maybe some things are better left secrets.
Carrie: Hi, Um, I’m going to bed now okay?
Haley: Yeah, great we’re fine.
Carrie: Just let me know if you need me.
Scene 40: Molly’s room.
(She’s painting over the door in white, but the words still show through.)
Peyton (v.o.): I want you to know that you don’t need somebody to write about you in order for your life to mean something. You can write about yourself, make your own destiny.
Scene 41: Peyton’s office.
(Peyton is sitting on a pool table drawing a picture.)
Peyton (v.o.): Then, years from now, the next girl will keep what you write on that door long enough to remind you of how inspired your life is.
Scene 42: Lucas’ house.
(Lucas walks in to Lindsey lying in bed sleeping.)
Peyton (v.o.): And you can tell that girl to paint over the door because you realize the words you wrote, the friends you had, the urgency you had, will always be there, underneath the paint.
(Lucas kisses her shoulder.)
Lucas: Lets get married right away.
(She turns to him smiles and they kiss.)
Peyton (v.o.): The love you professed will always be there. The spark of something undeniable, a seed of hope, truth, for better or for worse, burning fiercely, just below the surface.
Scene 43: Peyton’s office.
(Peyton’s drawing is a heart drawn in the sand being washed away by a wave. A tear falls and you see her crying.)
Peyton (v.o.): Love Peyton.
